RESPONSE:
By way of background to this question, may I repeat some of what has been mentioned before. We will come at it from another angle. In the days that I felt we ought to proceed as a Bible college and grant degrees, I also talked with the leaders of various mission boards. I talked with the Directors of Africa Inland Mission, Sudan Interior Mission, China Inland Mission, Wycliffe Translators, and leaders of other Boards. Without exception, they urged me, while I was yet Dean, to proceed to the point of granting degrees at Biola. But I could not get any one of them to put their feelings down on paper, nor would they appear before the Board and urge that. Without exception, they said that they wouldn't dare to speak out, because it would look like they were downgrading the very effective missionary work that many of their missionaries were already doing on the field who had not received degrees.
