a heavy day at school, and I said to my wife, "My dear, I'm going to retire." And she said, "Okay, Sam, I'm with you." And so at the next Board meeting a few days later, I gave my resignation and announced my retirement. Thursday evening at the Board meeting I presented my resignation to the Board. Friday morning before chapel I called a special meeting of the faculty, let the students out twenty minutes early, and announced my resignation to them. And then when the chapel started I read my resignation and retirement to the student body. So I had everything in order. Nobody could complain that I was doing something over their heads or behind their backs, and it worked out very, very nicely. The students even said they were sorry to see me go. To back up a little bit, I started employment at Biola on September 1, 1936. Pastor Paul Rood was President at that time, and it was upon recommendation of Dr. A. Walter Edmonds, Pastor of the Glendale
