Old-Fashioned Date Bars 1/2 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In medium mixing bowl, combine butter, brown sugar and flour; mix until crumbly. Press into ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Spread Date Filling over crust; let cool. Spread with Cream Cheese Frosting. Chill at least 2 hours or until frosting is set. Cut into bars. Makes about 3 dozen. Date Filling In saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, dates and sugar. Stir constantly until mixture comes to a full boil, about 4 to 7 minutes. Reduce heat; simmer for 3 minutes. Let cool slightly. Stir ½ cup date mixture into egg; add back to saucepan. Bring to gentle boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in cereal, walnuts and vanilla. Cream Cheese Frosting 4 ounces cream cheese, softened 2 cups powdered sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 to 3 teaspoons milk In medium mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla.
