Living with Dementia We understand the difference that high-quality person-centred dementia care can make to the quality of life of somebody living with dementia. We recognise that a person with dementia is, first and foremost, a person - unique and with a rich history of experiences, abilities, skills, knowledge, preferences, desires and personality. What is dementia? Dementia is the term used to describe a group of symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions – such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of mini-strokes (although not everyone who has a stroke will develop dementia). Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, but not the only one. A person living with dementia may experience memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These symptoms differ from person to person and the experience of living with dementia can be affected by a number of factors.
Sustainable Living The Manor House Roundhay has been built with environmental considerations in mind, where some of the sustainable features of our home are highlighted below: • The building has the highest possible Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) “A Rated”. • Solar panels to reduce CO2 emissions and energy use • Private gardens have been designed to be utilised as much as possible, with the preservation of established trees and the introduction of native planting and hedging. Over time, this is intended to increase the ecological richness and biodiversity of the greater site. • Combined Heat and Power unit to reduce CO2 emissions and energy use. • Heat recovery ventilation to provide fresh air to corridors and day spaces. Enhanced Technology In addition to receiving the highest standard of care, residents at The Manor House Roundhay are supported by the latest in non-intrusive care technology: • State-of-the-art Intercall Touch nurse call system, a hybrid of hard-wired infrastructure for robustness and fault monitoring, alongside wireless assistive technology to provide ultimate flexibility and cater for all our residents’ needs. • Intercall Safeguard Sensors monitor rooms where our residents are prone to falling or leaving their room at night. Positioned on the ceiling, the Safeguard sensor passively monitors bed occupancy using thermal imaging detection, to provide reassurance.
