OFFICE OF WORKERS' COMPENSATION

MATE ACT/DEA CME

The Louisiana State Medical Society is pleased to announce a new member benefit. As you may be aware, effective June 2023, The Medication Access and Training Expansion Act (MATE Act) requires all DEA-registered practitioners to complete eight hours of education on opioid or other substance use disorders. Our preferred partner, LAMMICO, has reviewed the federal legislation and determined that their subsidiary, Medical Interactive (MI), has a total of 8.5 hours of education that will satisfy the MATE Act/DEA requirement. The 3-hour ACT 76-related opioid courses that were previously completed by LSMS members do count toward the new DEA-required education.

LET INDEPENDENT MEDICAL EXAMS BE YOUR MONETARY BOOSTER

LSMS members who are non-LAMMICO policyholders will receive a 20% discount on these courses which brings the cost to only $40 per 1-hour course.

This discount is exclusive to LSMS members, so in order to register, you must login to your member profile located here - Member Profile. The course sign up link is under the Education tab.

If you have questions or need assistance with resetting/retrieving your password you can contact Amy Tyrrell at atyrrell@lsms.org or 225-763-2303.

WHAT ARE IMES? State Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) are an additional medical opinion regarding an examination of the injured worker (IW) arising from disputes between two opposing doctors as to the condition of the IW and/or the IW's capacity to work. [La. R.S. 23:1123] WHAT YOU WOULD DO? Once our Medical Services staff schedules the appointment with you, the insurance company will send you the medical records pertaining to the work injury. Then, you would evaluate the IW on the scheduled date. Last, submit an IME report within 30 days following the examination. [La. R.S. 23:1317.1]
