with the costs to deliver a face-to-face component of the modules and tutorials. The grant is a one- time infusion of funds and it is hoped that additional funding can be secured to ensure further training. A Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed shortly.

The Faculty of Humanities and Education joined with the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Faculty of Social Sciences, to launch an art and poetry competition in celebration of the Fifth Annual Inter-American Week for People of African Descent in the Americas. The competition was held under the theme “Stories of Courage in the Americas: Resistance to Slavery and Unity against Racism”. Dr. Aisha Spencer judged the poetry entries and Ms. Paula Daley from Edna Manley judged the art entries. The closing ceremony took place on March 23, 2022 with sponsorship from Digicel Jamaica and Jamaica National Bank. National Security Secretariat of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government in Providenciales The National Security Secretariat of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government in Providenciales, invited Dr. Livingston White, Director at CARIMAC, to do a workshop on “Managing Public Information and Media Relations” between July 11 and 12, 2022.

6.4 OUTREACH SIGGRAPH 2021 Virtual Conference

Mrs. Chevonnese Chevers Whyte of the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), participated as a panellist in the virtual SIGGRAPH 2021 conference held from August 9 to 13, 2021, under the theme “Teaching Under COVID, What Have We Learned?” SIGGRAPH 2021 is the premier computer graphics and interactive techniques conference of ACM SIGGRAPH, a special interest group of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), which has evolved to become an international community of researchers, artists, developers, filmmakers, scientists, and business professionals who share an interest in computer graphics and interactive techniques. Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival 2021 Dr. Alpha Obika, Lecturer at CARIMAC, participated in a panel discussion entitled, “Cultural Appropriation and the Caribbean Space” as part of the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival which was held on September 26, 2021. He also made a presentation on October 7, 2021 entitled “Carnival in Jamaica Post-COVID: The Role of Policy in the Festival’s Sustainable Development” at the Rex Nettleford Arts Conference 2021, which was held at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
