resort report checking in at one of our favorites

Let the good times roll in the heart of Louisiana’s bayou country Hideaway Ponds Resort

The resort’s home members, many of whom joined back in 1992, have been known to share the local delicacies with new arrivals, from just-caught crawfish to alligator and jambalaya. November through May is crawfish season here, and you can try your hand at catching the tiny lobster- like crustaceans in the resort’s stocked fishing ponds. Or you can always drop a line for catfish, bass and perch while comfortably trolling in a pedal boat or relaxing in a lawn chair on the shore. Between the indoor heated pool and hot tub and the outdoor junior Olympic pool and wading pool, you’ll make a splash year-round at Hideaway Ponds. The full-time activity director makes sure everyone gets in on the ac- tion, from ice-cream and watermelon socials to the popular Saturday night dances and karaoke. To keep the good times rolling, be sure to get a game going at the

minigolf course, the ping-pong and pool tables and the shuffleboard and volleyball courts. It’s all there for you. The resort takes excellent care of its facilities, from the tidy laundry room and bathhouse to the 4,000-square- foot clubhouse. Nearly 100 well-main- tained RV campsites offer 20-, 30- and 50-amp electrical service, sewage hookups, cable TV, picnic tables and barbecue pits. If you run low on sup- plies, it’s easy to stock up at the general store and deli right next to the office. Comments from happy campers fill the timeline on Hideaway Ponds’ Face- book page. “I count down the days till I’ll be in my happy place for a weekend of fun with family and friends,” posts one home resort member. “I can’t wait to be camping with my wonderful fam- ily and friends at Hideaway Ponds,” enthuses another. To which we can only add, “Well done, La Wanda. Keep up the good work.”

S outhern hospitality and joie de vivre are hallmarks of Hideaway Ponds Recreational Resort and its fun-loving members, according to La Wanda LaCoste. As the original owner of the 21-year-old Coast Deluxe Resort, set in the bayou country of Louisiana’s Terrebonne Parish, LaCoste ought to know. “There’s a camaraderie among our members,” she says, and that extends to Coast to Coast guests.
