Shilp Gravures Gets Best In Class XPS Certification Shilp Gravures, the Gujarat, India-based flexog- raphic platemaking provider, has become the first company in India to receive best in class certifica- tion under the XPS Crystal Program from Esko. One of Asia’s largest gravure cylinder makers, Shilp Gravures moved into flexographic plate man- ufacturing in 2008. Having worked with Esko and used the company’s integrated software and hard- ware solutions for more than 25 years, the company installed the Esko CDI Crystal and XPS plate imager and exposure solution at its facility in Rakanpur, near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. “The XPS Crystal Program was developed to rec- ognize those businesses that consistently produce superior plates, which lead to superior flexographic print quality,” said Murad Kalal, Esko Regional Sales Manager. The XPS Crystal Certification Program is open to all users of the Esko XPS Crystal exposure unit, the award-winning technology that combines UV main and back exposure, using LEDs that reportedly al- ways emit consistent UV light. Rotomed Diversifies With Bobst Laminators A NOVA SX 550 solventless laminator with inline SEI laser cutting system and a MASTER D 1000 multi-tech- nology laminator have been installed at the manufac- turing plant of Rotomed in Syracuse, Italy. With operations spread over two plants and 140 personnel, the Group specializes in the production of gravure and flexo printed flexible packaging (both laminated and single layer) and roll-fed label material, with both conventional and eco-friendly film packaging structures developed in-house and FSC certified paper. Core Business The core business is food and beverage packag- ing, alongside non-food production in the tissue, disposable, detergent, and pet food sectors. The NOVA SX 550 features an SEI laser cutting unit, which is installed on the machine’s bridge, to produce in a single flow in-register windowed packaging, a new type of application for Rotomed. The other Bobst laminator, the MASTER D 1000, is a multi-technology machine that was specified with all trolley types to cater to Rotomed’s extend- ed range of products - gravure, solventless, semi- flexo, cold seal, and the flexo trolley.
