never perish (John 10:28). Held fast to the hand that was nailed to the Cross and that broke the bars of death he is safe- There is no power that can remove him from the hold of that hand. He can know that he is secure (1 John 5:13). This epistle was written to give the assurance of salvation to the believer. To doubt it is to deny God. He can abide in peace (Isa. 32: 17). In quietness and assurance he can possess his soul. . The Lord will pre- serve him (Jude 1). Let others doubt; he joys in believing. LESSON IX. Sunday, August 28, 1910. The Believers' Walk. 1 John 1:1-7. The walk of the believer has refer- ence to his daily life. It denotes prog- ress, and the conduct which character- izes that life in the world. We are all m a world of sin (1 John 5:19). The children of this world walk after the flesh- (Rom. 8:1), according to the Prince of the Power of the Air (Eph. 2:2)., They are the enemies of the Cross (Eph. 3:18). Our walk is direct- ly opposite. We are Chidlren of God; we belong to another world (Phil. 3:- 17-20); we walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:4), in the power of the endless life. We walk in the light (John 8:12) as children of light (Eph. 5:8). The Word of God is our lamp (Psa. 119: 105); if we are faithful in reading it we will not stumble (Isa. 35:8). In the v/ord we find the footprints of our Lord and we follow Him (Col. 2:6). We walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16). " As many as are led by the Spirit of God they are the sons of Go d '' (Rom. 8:14). We walk in love (Eph. 5:2). This means that we shall manifest the love of God which is in us by a life of sacrifice for others, even as Christ did. We walk circumspectly (Eph. 5:15). There are many eyes upon us, judging our Master by our walk. We must commend the Lord Jesus in our walk; so we are told to walk in wisdom toward them (Col. 4:5), and to walk worthy of the Lord (Col. 1:10). We walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7). We have never been over this road before; but we have the Spirit to lead us and the Word of God to cheer us. Enoch walked with God (Gen. 5:24). I t was a walk of faith, it was a pleasant walk. What companionship He had; what se- crets were revealed to him. He was so happy in his walk that he walked a y ay one day and never came back. Abraham walked by faith before the Lord (Gen.
We had no merits of our own, nothing to commend us, but being in Christ Jesus we are new creatures. (2 Cor. -5:17), and as He is so are we (1 Jno. 4:17). The entrance of the Lord Jesus into the glory entitles us to acceptance there (Heb. 9:24, Heb. 10:19-22). Inheritance Unending (1 Pet. 1:4). I t will never fade away; it is reserved in heaven. All earthly possession must be surrendered (1 Jno. 2:17). This heavenly treasure abides eternally (Col. 1:3-4). The righteous judge will deal righteously in that day (2 Tim. 4:8). Title Unequalled (Eev. 5:9-10). We are to be kings and priests and asso- ciated with our loving Lord in His reign over the earth (1 Jno. 3:3). LESSON VIII. Sunday, August 21, 1910. The Believers' Security. Rom. 8:35-39. The eighth chapter of Romans begins with the statement that the believers shall never be brought into condemna- tion, and closes with the promise that they shall never know separation. God desires His children to rest in conscious security. Satan seeks to keep them in a state of unrest. In the matter of our salvation and, security, everything de- pends upon God's Word—never upon our opinions or feelings. The things calculated to separate us from God are those enumerated in verse 35—tribula- tion, distress, persecution, famine, nak- edness, • peril and the sword. Those cover almost every known trial and testing we ever have; but Paul goes beyond this, and assures us that angels and principalities and powers are un- able to separate us from God's abiding and abounding love. He has given to us eternal life (John 3:15), We shall nev- er know soul thirst (John 4:14). He has within Himself a spring of living water; its spjirce is in heaven and its flow unceasing. The believer shall never be judged for Bin (John 5:24). He was judged once and found guilty (Rom. 3:19). Condemned and execut- ed (John 19:16-18, 2 Cor. 5:14-15). He lives now a new life (Gal. 2:20). He shall never hunger (John 6:35-44, 50: 54-58). Here are words deep with meaning. The soul food is Christ. There are fourteen definite statements in these verses, any one of which is enough to anchor the soul forever.. He shall never walk in darkness (John 8: 12), God is light (1 Jno. 1:7). Who walks not with God walks in darkness (John 12:35). Thank God we 'are of the day (1 Thess. 5:4-5). He shall
