They include installing guiderails on the Little Rideau Creek Bridge on County Road 17 in East Hawkesbury Township, renovation work on two social housing residences in Hawkesbury that the UCPR manages. The Embrun Bridge in Russell Township and the Paul-Émile Levesque Bridge in Casselman will receive high-priority on the 2025 works schedule because of necessary emergency repairs for each. Recent inspections indicated the pedes- trian sidewalk supports on the Embrun Bridge are in “very poor condition” and need immediate reconstruction to ensure public TBGFUZ8JMMJT,FSS$POUSBDUJOH-UEXBTIJSFE to do the work. Some of the girders on the Paul-Émile Levesque Bridge need replacing. Temporary girder supports are needed in three places on the bridge to provide extra support while repair work is underway. ODS Marine, a specialist contractor, was hired to deal with the underwater work that will be part of the overall repair work. The UCPR public works department is also working with an engineering consultant on temporary safety measures to allow for heavy traffic on the bridge until the reconstruction work begins. Unforeseen circumstances forced some changes to planned public works pro- jects in the Prescott-Russell region. Jérémie Bouchard, public works director for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) presented a revised schedule plan for the 2025 UCPR works budget to the eight mayors on UCPR council during their January 29 session. “Due to unforeseen events, some projects and purchases weren`t completed before the end of 2024,” Bouchard stated in his report. UCPR council approved both Bouchard`s report on revisions to the 2025 public works budget and plan. That included authorizing reserve funds to the budget to help with completing the unfinished projects. One project Bouchard noted needs postponing to another year. That involves scheduled reconstruction of part of County Road 34, also known as Baseline Road, in the Clarence-Rockland area. The city has a water main installation project scheduled during that time and the UCPR reconstruction project will need to wait until the water main installation is finished. Bouchard`s department will go ahead with negotiating purchase deals for some land in the Baseline Road neighbourhood that will be needed for when the reconstruction

De plus, le promoteur devra fournir une garantie financière équivalente à 5 % de la valeur totale estimée des travaux, soit 79 649,64 $, en plus d’assumer les frais juridiques, environnementaux et d’assurance. L’entente devra également être enregistrée auprès du Bureau d’enregistrement des terres. Aucune objection ni préoccupation n’a été soulevée par le public concernant le projet, selon le rapport de Robitaille. Pour assurer le respect des engagements, le directeur des travaux publics ou un ingé- nieur désigné pourra inspecter le chantier et exiger des modifications si nécessaire. Le conseil municipal a approuvé ces mesures à l’unanimité, en l’absence du conseiller Peter Barton.

Le conseil municipal de Champlain a donné son feu vert à des modifications de zonage et à une entente de préamé- nagement pour permettre l’avancement de la deuxième phase du lotissement des Vallées de Vankleek Hill. Le projet, mené par Habitations Robert Inc. (HRI), prévoit une expansion résidentielle au nord de la rue Arber, avec un début des travaux prévu pour le printemps 2025. La décision, prise le 23 janvier, lève une restriction de zonage en vigueur depuis 2014 sur deux lots de la concession 5, permettant à HRI de procéder aux travaux d’infrastruc- ture essentiels, notamment l’aménagement des routes et des services publics. Cette phase comprendra 25 nouveaux lots résidentiels, dont quatre maisons jume- lées et 21 maisons unifamiliales. Le projet inclut également l’extension des rues Milner et Farmers pour mieux desservir le quartier. La première phase du développement des Vallées de Vankleek Hill, approuvée en juin 2021, a suscité un fort intérêt. Selon le conseil municipal, 97 % des lots ont déjà été vendus et 80 % des propriétés sont terminées ou en construction. Students enrolled in UCDSB eLearning courses have faced challenges accessing their coursework since the winter break. To ensure fairness, no final exams or projects will be required for first-semester eLearning courses, and final grades will be based on work submitted before December 20, 2024. The UCDSB is also collaborating with other school boards to ensure that students enrolled in external eLearning courses are not academically disadvantaged. Report cards will be distributed on Thurs- day, February 20, 2025, instead of February 14. This revised date remains in compliance with Ministry of Education guidelines and will not affect students applying to post- secondary institutions. The UCDSB acknowledges the inconve- nience caused by the cyber incident and thanks families for their patience as efforts continue to restore full services.
Wi-Fi access has been restored at Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) schools; however, it remains restricted to internal systems such as school office tools and email. External websites, including Google and YouTube, are still inaccessible for now, though this may change in the coming days. Following a security-driven password reset, staff regained access to email and UC accounts last week. The IT team is now working on restoring student access and will provide an update once the process is complete. The My Family Room service remains una- vailable. Parents and guardians are advised to contact their child’s school directly for attendance-related matters. Lunch program availability is at the dis- cretion of individual schools. Parents should
