POUND-FOR-POUND: The mythical list of the most distinguished fighters regardless of weight did not see any changes during this unusually inactive period, but it will definitely undergo some serious changes as the year moves along. The upcoming Ring welterweight clash between our champion, Lauren Price, and former junior middleweight champ Natasha Jonas is one of the fights that could have a significant impact on the pound- for-pound list. The compelling matchup will feature two of the most talented British amateur stars of the past decade in a championship bout that is already building up as a grudge match. It could easily turn into a trilogy if the performances reflect the animosity between these two. Speaking of trilogies, a potential third clash between future shoo-in Hall of Famer Katie Taylor and nemesis Chantelle Cameron could threaten to crown a new pound-for-pound queen, should they repeat their extraordinary performances in the first two clashes. For Taylor, it could be the final step toward retirement after an extraordinary, made-for-Hollywood career. For Cameron, it could not only be a chance to reclaim the junior welterweight Ring championship she lost to Taylor in a rematch of their fantastic first encounter, but also a chance to make a considerable case for becoming

Championship vacancies can be filled in the following two ways: 1. The Ring’s Nos. 1 and 2 contenders fight one another. 2. If the Nos. 1 and 2 contenders choose not to fight one another and No. 1 fights No. 3, that matchup could be for the Ring title if the Editorial Board deems No. 3 worthy. A champion can lose their belt in six sit- uations: 1. The Champion loses a fight in the weight class in which they are cham- pion; 2. The Champion moves to another weight class; 3. The Champion does not schedule a fight in any weight class for 18 months, although injuries and certain other
unforeseen circumstances could be taken into consideration; 4. The Champion does not schedule a fight at their championship weight for 18 months (even if they fight at another weight); 5. The Champion does not schedule a fight with a Top-5 contender from any weight class for two years; 6. The Champion retires. The Ring Editorial Board considers input from the Ratings Panel of boxing jour- nalists from around the world and then decides collectively what changes will be made. That applies to both the pound-for- pound and divisional ratings.
