MAMA SHELTER IS LO- CATED AT THE VERY HEART OF THE CITY , in Knez Mihailo- va Street, the city’s best-known pe- destrian zone. It is precisely due to this advantage that “Mama” is the perfect choice for a large number of guests who come to Belgrade for both business and tourism. Apart from that, “Mama” is situ- ated on the 4 th floor of the very well-known and extremely popu- lar Rajićeva Shopping Centre, so simple and easy shopping repre- sents another advantage. “Mama” is also renowned for the unforgettable sunsets on its rooftop terrace or, as many like to call it, the roof of Belgrade, which sprawls over a huge area of 500 square metres. To find out who’s behind it all, we spoke with Dejan Majić, general manag- er of the hotel... “The interior of "Mama", and every nook and cranny within it, was carefully conceived and de- signed by the famous Jalil Amor. The idea behind all of this is to lib- erate an object, like a hotel, from all the constraints of dry rules, white walls and hotel restaurants that al- ways look alike. Just like every oth- er “Mama” around the world, here Amor played on the walls of the res- taurant using shapes and elements in such a way that they give the im- pression of a living room, while the graffiti on the ceiling represents a map and specific parts of Belgrade.”
When it comes to the ac- tual cuisine on offer, is the emphasis on local flavours? “We all love the dishes our moth- ers made us, and so it is that my fa- vourite dish at “Mama” is stuffed chard rolls. We are renowned around the city for our good traditional Ser- bian food, but also for burgers and very rich Mediterranean cuisine. Ma- ma’s restaurant is also equipped with a special wood-fired oven that turns out the most delicious pizzas...” But “Mama” is also famous for its bar and fun times? “We offer entertainment almost every day of the week. Alongside our special cocktails, on Mondays and weekends you can enjoy your- selves to a DJ, thereby creating a good warm-up to head out clubbing after midnight. On the other hand, every Thursday, under the scope of the project “Mama is going live”, well- known Belgrade bands bring the world's greatest hits to our terrace.”
To conclude, could you tell us something about the hotel? “Mama Shelter Belgrade has as many as 125 rooms, created in sizes ranging from M to XXL. Each one is specially designed; the walls are covered with graffiti and each guest is awaited by special items in their room. The overall setting in the hotel’s rooms sends the message that you should relax and be true to yourself, which is why many critics around the world also refer to Mama Shelter hotels as hotels with attitude.
