SECRETS OF MEN’S SUITCASES Pack for a late summer break September is golden, utilise it to work a little more on improving your tan – and dress accordingly W hen talk turns to men’s style for swel- tering days (and evenings), things aren’t quite as simple as they might seem at first glance: here we’re, of course, referring to the endless op- tions for combining shirts, shorts, sunglasses and trainers... Or maybe it should be simple, precisely be- cause of all that? Designers sought inspiration for this season in a variant of clothing that was popular for sum- mer holidays back in the 1950s. Here we mean the ‘Cabana set’ – comprising a matching shirt and shorts, which will reduce to a minimum the time required to think about getting ready in the morning (not to mention how much it can ease the packing process). Despite often being associated with ostenta- tious Hawaiian patterns, the Cabana set shows many fashion faces of its own – from minimalist to
maximalist. Lovers of purified designs and neutral palettes will probably naturally gravitate towards the simple versions being offered by Spanish fast fashion company Zara, while trendsetters with an adventurous spirit (and a big bank account) will find their favourites in the Mediterranean magic of the vibrant retro patterns selected by Dolce&Gab- bana for its sunny set – while obviously drawing inspiration from old, multicoloured shawls. Somewhere in the middle of the style spec- trum is our favourite fashion suggestion: the set we spotted in H&M’s collection has a snakeskin pattern implemented in a discreet shade of bur- gundy. It is reminiscent of more extravagant de- signer pieces, but is significantly more wearable – and is the most affordable option in the selec- tion. The ideal choice when you’re heading out on the town after the beach, sunglasses can also be an option on the dance floor (provided you’re cool enough). However, we can’t conclude the story of this ordinary/extraordinary trend without mention- ing one set that has a hint of novelty thanks to the summer blockbuster that everyone has heard about. It is, of course, the striped Cabana set in pastel tones that’s rocked by Ryan Gosling in the role of Ken in the phantasmagoria in pink that is the hit movie Barbie. He naturally knows how to wear this hot trend – because, as he himself ex- plains in the film: “My job is just the beach”.
