Zbog arhitekture Budimpeštu mnogi nazivaju Pariz istoka.
Budapest has been dubbed the Par- is of the East by many, due to its archi- tecture. During the time of Austro-Hun- garian rule, it was the empire’s second capital, which is the source of its rivalry with Vienna, with these two cities com- peting constantly to outdo each other in terms of beauty, or in terms of which one had the better architecture. And it’s really hard to say, as both cities are tru- ly beautiful, while the architecture of Budapest carries the stamp of Parisian and Venetian architecture. Don’t miss the chance of a boat ride along the beautiful blue Danube, be- cause no city has so adeptly positioned itself around the river as Budapest, with its seven magnificent bridg- es, each with its own interesting story. From the Pest side, you will be enchant- ed by the Parliament Building, which is the second largest in Europe (after Bu- charest’s) and represents the perfect neo-Gothic edifice. You need to set aside time to explore the richly deco- rated spaces containing numerous art- works, but also the main attraction: the Holy Crown that’s on display in the par- liament’s central domed hall. And a must on the Buda side is the Roy-
al Palace, Buda Castle, which was built in 1265. Following its expansion in the 14 th century, it became the then world’s largest Gothic palace. Buda Castle has been home to kings and queens, Ot- toman occupiers and Habsburg nobili- ty, while it today houses the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest History Museum and the National Széchényi Li- brary. However, in all that beauty, per- haps the most beautiful of all is the Fish- erman's Bastion monument, with its a Neo-Romanesque lookout terraces and fairy-tale appearance on the Buda side of the Danube, providing the ide- al place to enjoy views of the river and the city.
