Profiles in Mining: Roughstock Mining
Providing technical support, literally from the ground up
and cost, and use our knowledge gained from a variety of mines and to take that knowledge to new and existing cli- ents. For our employees, we want to continue to allow new and existing employees to increase their knowledge by working on a variety of mine sites and allow them to “think-outside- the-box” as mining technology evolves and have fun in the process. Are there causes or nonprofits that you support? We support the AMA, Montana Mining Association, Amer- ican Mining Association, Mine Expo, Montana Tech Mining Team and the Montana High School Rodeo Association. Why is AMA important to your company? And to Alaska min- ing? AMA is key for Roughstock Mining to allow a platform to be able to convey to Alaska clients what we do and allow us to network with Alaska clients during the AMA Annual Con- ference in the Fall, local AMA conferences, and through the weekly, now virtual, AMA meetings. AMA is hugely important for mining in Alaska as miners need a common voice to express the need for minerals de- velopment for Alaska to supply critical material needs, and to provide a strong-diverse Alaska economy. What opportunities do you see for the future, for your company and for mining? Alaska has a number of mature projects that will be- come mines in the next decade, and several existing long- life mines. Roughstock is currently involved with several of these projects which are key for the future of Alaska and the US minerals supply chain. As the new projects evolve to long-term mines, they will require the services we provide along with a laundry list of other vendors, and contractors. Roughstock is excited to be part of the future development of mining in Alaska. And how are you facing the special challenges we are facing in 2021? Travel and meeting face to face with clients and potential clients has been challenging over the last year, but despite that our business has grown and diversified. The use of tools like Teams, and Zoom has allowed the work to continue. But we are looking forward to the getting back to face-to- face interaction, and the ability to visit mines and projects. Nothing replaces “boots on the ground”. What else do you want to be sure our readers know about you? Roughstock is excited to have opened a branch office in the Anchorage/Wasilla area. It should afford us a better op - portunity to connect with clients more easily and to stay in touch with the pulse of mining in Alaska.
