Welcome to Zlatibor Spring is at its most beautiful on mountains The delightful Zlatibor becomes picturesque and multicoloured at this time of year, with nature flourishing at every turn T his mountain is wonderful year-round, but is perhaps at its most delightful with the awakening of early spring. Even if it’s pour- ing down outside, you can light a fire in the hearth, open a bottle of wine, put on some relaxing music, slice some cured ham and cheese... Or visit one of the many spa centres and indulge in a dif- ferent kind of enjoyment. Your day on Zlatibor can certainly start with the perfect ‘komplet lepinja’, the bread bun with everything, accompanied by homemade sour milk and fiery home- made rakija. While you treat your tastebuds, feast your eyes on the green expanse. Spring has taken the effort to provide you with the perfect atmosphere. And then take to the hiking trails and discover the beauty of Zlatibor... Gostilje Roaring proudly, just 20 kilometres from the centre of Zlatibor, is Gostilje Waterfall, which is named after the village and river of the same name. The waterfall is easily reached via well-trodden trails, so there’s no reason not to visit it if you find yourself in the Zlatibor area. This gem makes for an unforgettable scene – the water emerges via moss-covered rocks to create a wa- terfall that’s 20 metres high. The water is icy cold, so you can forget about taking a dip. However, the spray is sure to cool you regardless of how hot the summer might be. Once your eyes and senses have had their fill of the waterfall, you can hike along the course of the river, which is full of cascades, rapids and whirlpools. This route leads to the river Katušnica, into which the Gostiljska empties. The trail is landscaped and runs from the waterfall, along the length of the river, to the newly constructed bridge. Sirogojno After visiting that wonder of nature, you can con- tinue on towards Sirogojno and the Staro selo [Old vil- lage] open-air museum. There you will have an oppor- tunity to familiarise yourself with the former lifestyle of the people of this region during the period from the mid-19 th century to the beginning of the 20 th centu-
