Muzej Nikole Tesle, Krunska 51
Ifthepatentsoffamous Serb scientist Nikola Tes- la ceased to function at one point, industry would grind to a halt, trains and trams would come to a standstill, cities would be left in darkness and factories would die. This statement, which remains true to this day, was first heard in 1917, when Tesla received the Edison Medal for his discovery of the poly- phase system of alternating current in New York, where he spent the ma- jority of his life. After departing the region bound for the U.S., the “ge- nius from Smiljan” only visited Ser- bia once, staying in Belgrade from 1 st to 3 rd June 1892, making a de- tour on his European tour to give lec- tures on his inventions in the field of high voltage and high frequency electric currents. The museum that bears the name of this famous sci- entist remains the first address that should be visited by his admirers.
Beograd čuva dragocenu zaostavštinu u Muzeju Nikole Tesle, ali trag genijalnog naučnika prati se širom Srbije, od Hidroelektrane „Pod gradom“ u Užicu do manastira u Šišatovcu na Fruškoj gori / Belgrade preserves the inventor’s precious legacy at Nikola Tesla Museum, but the tracks of this scientific genius can be traced all over Serbia, from the “Under City” hydroelectric plant in Užice to Šišatovac Monastery on Mount Fruška Gora Putevima Nikole Tesle po Srbiji / Tracking Nikola Tesla around Serbia Život kao nijedan drugi / A life like no other
Nikola Tesla Museum, 51 Krunska Street
In the space of this Vračar edifice that represents the work of great architect Dragiša Brešovan, visitors can follow the course of Tesla’s life from the days of his childhood, through his photos and per- sonal documents. They can also im- agine how he walked with the help of a cane, protected himself from the sun with a hat and packed essentials in his travel bag, because these items are all included in the museum collection. However, the urn containing Tesla’s ash- es, which was delivered from New York in 1957, provides no hint of the kinds of problems faced by this extraordinary man during his life. Most of the muse- um’s artefacts inspire admiration, be- cause the average person still doesn’t understand the operating principle of his patents. That’s why today’s observ- ers are just as surprised by the rotating egg, and actually the effect of the ro- tating magnetic field, as the audience had been at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chi- cago. Some will be moved by the fact
