Let’s welcome the summer! When the summer comes, you simply have to celebrate its ar- rival. In Valencia, there is even a special night for this: La noche de San Juan; the Night of San Juan, or St. John’s Eve. On the evening of 23 rd June, everybody heads to the beach to make bonfires and enjoy the first formal summer evening. This tradition is intended to celebrate the summer solstice, marking the start of summer, the longest day of the year and, of course, the shortest night. During this evening, people are allowed to picnic and make bonfires on the beach. Everybody brings their own drinks, food, snacks and music, ensuring that this evening becomes a huge party. Malvarossa and Pataco- na beaches are great places to enjoy this night. These long and wide beaches have enough space for everybody, but you are not allowed to make bonfires on every beach in the city – doing so is not permitted on the beaches located in the south, within the Albufera Natural Park. When you are in the mood to make your own beach bonfire, piles of wood will be handed out to you, but you will probably have to queue to get some. This evening celebration also in- cludes some very special traditions: - Jump over the bonfire: you will see a lot of people jumping over the fire to dispel negative energy. Be careful if the flames are very high. - Jump over the waves: at midnight you have to head to the shore, jump over seven waves and make a wish that will pro- vide you with good health for the rest of the year. - Swim in the sea: once you have jumped over the waves, you can have a swim, but be careful when swimming in the dark.
Ne zabora- vite da osta- vite plažu čistom, ka- kvu ste je i zatekli Remem- ber to leave the beach as clean as you found it
