These goals (SDG’s), address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation and stand as a blueprint for achieving a sustainable future for all; designed to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. For our part, Ardmac have identified where we can take action: Climate change, environment, communities, responsible business and innovation .

Ardmac operates and maintains a certified ISO 14001 : 2018 certified Environmental Management System, part of which contains procedures and tools to ensure all construction waste is managed in a controlled manner to minimise the potential environmental impact of our construction operations.

Reduction in overall use of Corriboard and recycling of all Corriboard used.

Waste KPI 2020 = 8.6 Tonnes/€M turnover.

Ensure correct use of PEP and SWMP. Improve understanding of waste streams by BU. Identifying opportunities for improvement by BU. Engaging with vendors to minimise packaging. Off-site prefabrication where practicable.

MITIGATION OF CO2 IMPACT A carbon offset is a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases made in order to compensate for emissions made elsewhere. Offsets are measured in Tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent.

SCOPE 1 & 2 Collation of all scope 1+2 emissions achieved 2020. Since Q4 2020 all electricity procured from renewable sources. Swords Offices 48% (23 Tonnes) reduction in CO2e will be achieved 2022. Manchester Office 89% (24 Tonnes) reduction in CO2e will be achieved in 2022. Target 10% reduction in CO2e from LGV Fleet vehicles 2022. Develop plan for transition to zero emissions vehicles for LGV fleet.

SCOPE 3 Data collection for CO2e emissions from flights commenced. Data collection for scope 3 CO2e from grey fleet to commence 202. Target full analysis & understanding of scope 3 by end of 2021.

Target 3% year on year reduction in CO2e from offices.

Reduce embodied carbon by designing out high carbon materials and using low embodied-carbon alternatives (e.g. cement replacements, recycled & upcycled materials). LCA (Embodied Carbon) completed on LEED and BREEAM projects. In the pursuit of carbon neutrality LCA will be increasingly required. Emphasis on selection of low impact fully recyclable materials. Amendment of CP4 Procurement Procedure to include gathering environmental data from recognised responsible sourcing schemes i.e • Manufacturers’ ISO 14001 • Manufacturers’ BES 6001 • FSC for all timber products • Product Environmental Declarations

Implementing LEAN construction practices such as Last Planner / 6-Week Look aheads etc., for use on all projects.

Evision & Evaluate - These are the ERP / Financial software packages used by the Tendering & Estimating Department and by the Commercial Department to streamline, standardise and prepare tender bids and manage project finances. Collaboration Tools, such as MS Teams - making it easier to keep in contact with multiple colleagues, who may be working across various regions.

Introduction of Go Contractor In-house

Training platform ; ensuring all Staff Onboarding/Training is completed before they ever step foot on a project site.

ME N TA L H E A LT H FOCU S AT A RDMAC At Ardmac, we are all very aware of the physical risks and on-site threats. We put Safety First in everything we do. But what about the dangers we can’t see? Depression, Anxiety, Stress and Suicidal Thoughts are just as dangerous as the tangible on-site hazards. Over the past number of years there has been an increasing number of employees in the construction industry suffering from mental health issues. A 2020 study found that 83% of construction workers have experienced a mental health issue. Mental health issues are in-discriminatory and affect people in all roles. We place huge focus on regulations and on-site safety but mental health needs to be prioritised just as highly as wearing a hard hat or protective goggles. That’s why this year, Ardmac have chosen their 3 charity partners with a focus on mental health; Pieta House, Manchester Mind and The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. Ardmac is aiming to help tackle this issue by increasing awareness of the mental health issues within the construction industry, providing the support and resources for our staff and raising vital funds for our charity partners.
