originated in continental America, and the musical tradition of the Balkans, whilst also promoting in particular the fusing of these two styles, thereby contributing mas- sively to the presenting of Balkan music as a new world trend. Guča Trumpet Festival The Guča Trumpet Festival is a traditional music festival and unique competitive gathering of trumpeters that’s held each year in the small town of Guča that’s located in the Dragačevo region of Western Serbia. Each August sees almost a million domestic and for- eign visitors head to this tiny town of just 2,000 residents. Thanks to this festival, Guča has come to be known worldwide as the site of the planet’s largest festival of trumpet music, while the festival is also re- nowned for promoting other tra- ditional values, such as the tradi- tional songs, dances and costumes of the Dragačevo region and West- ern Serbia. The world’s top trum- pet party takes place this year from 11 th to 13 th August. Guitar Fest - Zaječar There are few cities around the world that can boast of hosting a festival that has a tradition dat- ing back more than half a centu- ry and that has hosted countless performers in both its competitive and entertainment sections. Since its inception, the Zaječar Guitar Fest has utilised the magnetism and vibrations of rock music to attract bands and audiences from across the former Yugoslavia, and later also from other countries in the surrounding region. The Zaječar Guitar Fest, or simply Gitarijada, is a music festi- val that focuses primarily on rock music and is held each summer in the Serbian town of Zaječar. The festival’s programme com- prises a competition among de- mo bands and non-competitive performances by more famous bands. This year’s 56 th consecu- tive Gitarijada Zaječar will take place from 24 th to 26 th August.

Interest- ingly, Nišville’s latest edition will also offer visitors a high-quality international programme within the scope of the Nišville Jazz The- atre Festival, as well as numerous documentaries and feature films covering the topic of music with- in the framework of the Nišville Movie Summit. The International Nišville Jazz Festival, which is today the most popular jazz festival in Southeast Europe, has consistently defended European values of multicultural- ism and patiently nurtured the re- fined musical taste of individuals since it was founded back in 1995.
Providing yet more confirmation of this was an article about the fes- tival published in Brussels-based magazine New Europe under the headline ‘Nišville - European Face Of Serbia’, as well as a 2016 ar- ticle in prestigious British news- paper The Guardian that ranked Nišville among Europe’s top ten jazz festivals! Since its inception, this festi- val’s concept has been based pri- marily not only on more “tradi- tional” forms of jazz, but also on the fusion of this genre with eth- no-music traditions of different parts of the world, particularly the Balkans.
