From enjoying the sunshine, bath- ing, strolling by the sea, kayaking, diving and sailing, to activities like mountaineering, hiking and moun- tain-biking on the outskirts of the city. Thanks to its favourable location, the Orjen massif and the mountainous countryside around Herceg Novi proved interesting to conquerors of the area over the centuries, and particularly to Austria-Hungary, which harnessed some of the springs in the surrounding ar- ea and constructed functional roads. This has result- ed in Orjen being accessible from all sides. Regardless of which side they approach from, today’s mountain- eers and hikers encounter open views of this territory’s natural beauty, as well as the most stunning sea views. Also located in the foothills of Orjen is Vrbanj, the largest adventure park in this part of Europe, while vil- lages with typical Mediterranean architecture also dot the surrounding countryside. The unmissable “Flower of Stone” that is the village of Žlijebi, with its unique ap- pearance and rare authentic ambience, provides views over all the perfection of the Bay of Kotor. Žlijeb can be reached by car from the village of Kameno or via the old pedestrian lane leading from the outskirts of Her- ceg Novi. For more ambitious hikers, the most attrac- tive trail leads to Veliki Kabao (1,894 m), the summit of Mount Orjen and the highest point of the coastal Di- naric range, while there’s also the even more demand- ing trail to the peak Subra (1,679 m), which is a four- hour hike from Herceg Novi city centre. Herceg Novi has attractions to enjoy year-round. The coast itself – alternating between urban beaches and intimate coves, coastal settlements, peninsulas and capes – has such specific qualities that every vis- itor leaves with a desire to return. Harmony with the land, serenity, tranquillity and pristine nature – these are all reasons to visit the Lušti- ca Peninsula. This unique paradise is the perfect desti- nation for lovers of the traditional Mediterranean life- style that’s been practised by locals here for centuries. In around a dozen villages that have preserved the spe- cific spirit of bygone times, the houses are surround- ed by olive groves and fig orchards, almond and carob trees, all of which are separated by copses of coastal pines. Luštica is also renowned for the high quality of its cold-pressed olive oil, cheese produced from oil with an intensive flavour, pršuta cured ham and ‘mag- injača’ rakija, which is produced by fermenting the ar- butus berries of the Mediterranean shrub, commonly known as the strawberry tree, that dominates this re- gion. This area is also the location of the most attractive daytrip destinations from Herceg Novi, such as Žan- jice, Mirište, Dobreč, Rose and the Blue Grotto, Plava Špilja, so Luštica simultaneously offers a wide range of opportunities for diving, sailing, fishing, kayaking and cycling. Thanks to its rich cultural heritage, this pen- insula is often also dubbed the small Holy Mountain.

Danas planinari i ljubitelji šetnji, s koje god strane da mu priđu, nailaze na otvoren pogled ka prirodnim lepo- tama ovog područja, kao i najlepši pogled na more. U podnožju Orjena smešten je i Vrbanj, najveći avanturistički park u ovom delu Evrope, a u zaleđu su sela sa tipičnom mediteranskom arhitekturom. Ne- zaobilazan Cvet od kamena, selo Žlijebi, jedinstveno je po izgledu i redak je autentičan ambijent odakle se pruža pogled na svu savršenost bokokotorskog zali- va. Do Žlijeba se dolazi automobilom od sela Kameno ili starim pešačkim putem iz hercegnovskog predgra- đa. Za ambicioznije planinare najatraktivnija staza je do Velikog Kabla (1.894 m), glavnog vrha planine Orjen i najviše tačke primorskih Dinarida, i još zah- tevnija staza do Subre (1.679 m), udaljena četiri sa- ta hoda od gradskog jezgra. Herceg Novi ima pogodnosti za uživanje tokom cele godine. Obala duž koje se smenjuju urbane plaže i intimne uvale, primorska naselja, poluostrva i rto- vi, ima takve osobenosti da svakog posetioca ispra- ća sa željom da joj se ponovo vrati. Prirodni sklad, mir, spokoj i netaknuta priroda – razlozi su da posetite poluostrvo Luštica. Ovaj je- dinstveni raj pravo je mesto za zaljubljenike u me- diteranski način života kakvim meštani žive vekovi- ma. U desetak sela koja su sačuvala tipičan stari duh, kuće su okružene maslinama i smokvama, bademi- ma i rogačem, a razdvajaju ih šumarci primorskih borova. Luštica je takođe poznata po kvalitetnom hladnoceđenom maslinovom ulju, siru iz ulja inten- zivnog ukusa, po pršutu i rakiji maginjači, nastaloj vrenjem plodova mediteranskog grma koji domini- ra ovim krajem. Ovde su smeštena i najatraktivnija hercegnovska izletišta Žanjice, Mirište, Dobreč, Ro- se i Plava špilja, pa Luštica istovremeno pruža broj- ne mogućnosti za ronjenje, jedrenje, ribarenje, ka- jaking i biciklizam. Zbog bogatog kulturnog nasleđa poluostrvo često nazivaju i malom Svetom gorom.
