For its art scene Novi Sad takes its street art se- riously. Building façades have been transformed into colourful displays of large-scale murals, with the city’s best street art to be found in the alleyways along Dunavska Street. For its beach When the weather’s nice, No- vi Sad locals head to the Štrand, a 700-metre-long Danube sand beach, to swim, sunbathe and build sand- castles. At low tide, it’s possible to wander out to Fisherman’s Island and find a secret spot for a picnic or enjoy a late-night drink, with live music providing the right milieu for an evening on soft sand.

Rasp- berries, cheeses and charcuterie are available in abundance, as are hearty dishes like burek pie, ćevapi meat sticks and the extravagant In- dex Sandwich (stuffed with melt- ed cheese, ham, mushrooms and topped with lashings of sauce), which is a Novi Sad invention.
