The Next Summer Vacation Enjoying the Moment and Planning for the Future

T his month, I’m happy to report that my daughter Isabella has been having a great summer. She wrapped up kindergarten at the end of May. For the past few weeks, she’s been attending a summer day camp that she loves. Like most kids, she’s also really looking forward to celebrating the Fourth of July. We don’t leave town during the Fourth. The lines at the airport are long, and the traffic is too crazy. Instead, we spend the day on the beach and at the pool. There’s always a wonderful fireworks show; and afterwards, we light some sparklers. It’s a good time that always reminds me of what summer vacation felt like when I was a kid myself.

One thing no one ever tells you about being an adult is that summertime becomes less special. Once you’re out of school and in your career, there’s no more “summer” vacation. Sure, summer is a great time to go on vacation, but those long, lazy weeks of sleeping in or playing outside until the street lamps come on are gone forever. When you’re an adult, retirement becomes the new summer vacation. Part of what I enjoy about being a retirement planner is getting to hear about the plans my clients have for their retirement years. They travel all over, move closer to their families, or get active with the charitable causes they care about. It’s a privilege to be a part of helping those goals become a reality. The first part of 2019 has been pretty volatile in terms of the market, but reaching the midway point in the year gives us some energy and focus to take charge of the rest of the year. Going into the second half of 2019, I’ve been thinking about how we can better empower our clients to take control of their futures. I’m really excited to be launching new and complimentary workshops for our clients and their friends. These educational workshops professional before making any investment decision. By working with so many great clients, I’ve learned that enjoying retirement isn’t always as difficult as people fear. It’s possible to work hard, plan and save for retirement, and still have time to watch fireworks on the beach with your family. BEWARE THESE RETIREMENT SPENDING MISTAKES COMMON FINANCIAL PITFALLS

T he bulk of retirement planning is spent discussing how you will save money in the years leading up to the end of your career, but that’s only half of the picture. Once you enter retirement, your focus shifts to the smartest way to divest your money for both your own enjoyment and your continued financial security. There are countless ways to wisely spend your nest egg, such as taking trips, providing for the education of your grandchildren, and more. However, this article isn’t about good ideas. vacationing options. In a world where you can book an Airbnb with just a few clicks, timeshares are poised to become a relic of a past age. Online Scams Hackers and cyberscammers love to prey on the elderly. As gross as it may sound, they know that older generations tend to be less tech savvy than their younger counterparts. You should be wary of online offers that look too good to be true. If you have even the slightest doubt, have a loved one take a look at the offer to ensure you’re not being scammed. Never provide your private financial data to a source you don’t absolutely trust. moderation, but amassing junk simply for its own sake is a waste of money and space. Make sure you’re acquiring objects because you truly want to treasure them. Rushed Relocations In general, real estate-based purchases can be extremely beneficial for retirees. The exception to this rule is a spur-of-the- moment relocation in order to be closer to your family or a retirement community. Because real estate transactions are so expensive, it’s best to approach them with extreme care and due diligence.

Navigate Your Dream Retirement

Strategies to Protect Your Savings and Your Future

Have you heard about the retired couple who has traveled on more than 100 cruises? Judy and James Franklin made headlines this past spring when the story of their many adventures on the high seas went viral on the Internet. Not all of these cruises were in retirement, mind you. They’ve been spread out over 56 years of marriage. But today, these active retirees enjoy six to 10 cruises a year, often accompanied by some of their children, grandchildren, or great- grandchildren. The Franklins, who are 73 and 76 years old, are proving that it’s possible to live that dream retirement, whether the dream is sailing the world, embracing the RV lifestyle, spending time with the grandkids, or growing old in the home a couple has built together. Ten cruises a year isn’t everyone’s idea of fun, which is why there’s no “one size fits all” strategy in retirement planning.

It’s also important to discuss your risk tolerance with your spouse. The Franklins are able to enjoy their exciting retirement lifestyle because they are on the same page and in agreement when it comes to their finances. Married couples should be planning their retirement together to make sure their plans and strategies are complementary to each other. The last thing anyone wants to do in retirement is to be forced to go back to work in order to supplement their income. It’s a little hard to hop on a cruise ship or spend Thanksgiving with the grandkids out of town when you’re working a nine-to-five again. Learn more about risk tolerance and the strategies necessary to implement in order to avoid running out of money in retirement by calling 904-232-8760. The professionals at Wolf Retirement Navigation are looking forward to helping you realize your dream retirement, whether that dream is on the high seas or in your own backyard.

the first step is assessing risk. How much can you afford to lose? How much risk is too much? Why take more risk than you need to meet your goals? As a general rule of thumb, if you can sleep at night without worrying about the stock market, you’re probably doing fine in the risk department. However, bear in mind that time is not on our side during the retirement years. Age plays a huge role in risk tolerance, as does the stage of life you’re in.

3. Drizzle olive oil over top of salad and serve immediately.

Chill Out

Relax in These Cool Destinations This Summer

Tips forYourTripBack inTime

Norway Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to give up your skiing hobby! Venture off to Norway and experience some of their most popular summer ski resorts. After a day or two shredding the slopes, experience the popular Norwegian Opera and Ballet in Oslo or choose between numerous outdoor and indoor exhibitions. Best of all, you won’t even break a sweat, as the average temperature in Norway’s hottest month barely hits 70 degrees F. Bordering Sweden and northern Finland, Norway can even be the beginning to a cool European tour this summer.

As the scorching summer sun beats down, it’s hard to remember that just six months ago you were shivering through the winter, whether that meant a chilly 50 degrees F or bitter subzero temperatures. But if cooler temps sound like paradise, and a dip in the pool is no longer keeping you cool, it might be time to take a vacation somewhere chilly. Check out these three destinations to avoid the summer heat. Alaska No place says chilly quite like Alaska. Trips to Alaska can be expensive during this time of year, but when you step into that crisp air with a cool mountainous view, you’ll understand why it’s a popular summer voyage. Travelers can choose to fly or take a cruise ship, and many cities feature tourism-packed excursions. A few

notable locations include Anchorage, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and Denali National Park and Preserve. Iceland Just as its name suggests, Iceland can be the perfect destination for travelers yearning to get away from the unbearable summer heat. With temperatures rarely exceeding 60 degrees F — the average high for the country — packing is easy for this relaxing vacation. Take a relaxing dip in one of the country’s many hot springs or enjoy tremendous views of the fjords. Even better, you can tour the country at any time because it’s sunny almost 24 hours a day. What could be better than a midnight hike around the fourth happiest country in the world?
