3. ‘INTERVIEW’ YOUR TOP CANDIDATES. Once you’ve done your research, select 3–4 top candidates. Make appointments (ask if these are complementary first) with each one and “interview” them with specific questions related to your situation. Even as you’re meeting with them, know that there are no guarantees in any type of legal matter, so take any promises an attorney makes with a grain of salt.

If you’ve never needed a lawyer before, finding one you feel comfortable working with who focuses on the area of law you need can be a daunting task. When you’re looking for an attorney, ask people you know and trust who can give you their honest opinion of attorneys they know. Use this as a starting point to gather a list of potential candidates.

2. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

Once you have a list of potential lawyers, check out their website, Google reviews,

Avvo reviews, and Martindale profile (martindale.com). Find out from the Michigan State Bar Association if a lawyer you’re considering has had any suspensions or grievances against them.

CLASSIC ROAST CHICKEN

1 lemon, halved

1 head garlic, cut in half crosswise

INGREDIENTS •

• • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted 1 large yellow onion, thickly sliced 4 carrots, peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces 3. Meanwhile, in a roasting pan, toss onions and carrots in olive oil and seasonwith salt, pepper, and 20 sprigs of thyme. 4. Place the chicken on the vegetables and roast for 1 1/2 hours. 5. Remove from oven, and let stand for 20 minutes covered with foil. 6. Slice and serve with the vegetables. • • Olive oil

1 chicken, approx. 5–6 lbs

Kosher salt

Freshly ground pepper

1 large bunch fresh thyme, 20 sprigs removed

DIRECTIONS 1. Heat oven to 425 F. 2. Rinse chicken inside and out, removing giblets if included. Move to a work surface, pat dry, and liberally season with salt and pepper. Stuff cavity with thyme bunch, lemon

halves, and garlic head. Brush outside with butter, and then season again. Tie chicken legs together with kitchen string.
