Greens: Verti-cutting and light topdressing (sanding) of the greens on a regular basis (every two to three weeks) is absolutely critical to ensure firm, thatch free, super smooth and consistently fast greens. This practice removes unnecessary leaf tissue that causes the slow, spongy, bumpy greens that are sometimes seen at other courses. The light topdressing helps mitigate thatch accumulation and smooths out any imperfections on the putting surface. The practice of Verti-cutting and light topdressing of the greens should not be done during periods of high heat (95 degrees plus) or during extreme cold periods (40 degrees or less, for several days in a row). We just completed our first V-cut and light Topdressing of the greens since mid-June, and will do one more of these applications prior to our Fall aeration of the golf course. Once we have healed completely from our Fall aeration, we will resume our every two to three week V-cut and light topdressing program until the hot weather returns in the summer of 2024. To the many, many members and guests who have stopped to tell me how nice the golf course is, THANK YOU.
