Volunteer Month: Celebrating the Heart of Tasmania’s Community Clubs May saw us celebrate volunteer month, which is a timely reminder of the extraordinary contribution volunteers make across Tasmania’s community clubs. From local sporting clubs and RSLs to many other organisations, volunteers are the backbone that keeps these vital community hubs operating day in and day out.
ensure clubs remain safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for all members and visitors. Without their commitment, many clubs simply would not be able to function. At the same time, Tasmanian community clubs collectively support hundreds of thousands of members, providing a place where people of all ages can come together, stay active, and feel part of something bigger than themselves. These clubs are often the heartbeat of regional towns and suburbs, offering connection and belonging. However, the demands on volunteers continue to grow. Clubs are facing increasing pressures including rising operational costs, insurance challenges, workforce shortages, and the ongoing need to attract and retain volunteers. Despite these challenges, volunteers continue to show up - week after week - to ensure their clubs thrive. It is in recognition of this outstanding contribution that Clubs Tasmania is proud to host its upcoming Awards Event, featuring 16 dedicated categories celebrating excellence across the community club sector. These awards aim to highlight the incredible individuals and clubs who go above and beyond to strengthen their communities.
Across Tasmania, it is estimated that around 69 per cent of Tasmanians give their time, skills and energy each week to support community clubs. When combined with the broader membership base of clubs across the state, this represents a significant portion of the Tasmanian population who are actively engaged in strengthening local communities, promoting wellbeing and social connection. These volunteers take on countless roles - often behind the scenes and without recognition.
