AT THE CHRISTMAS MARKET To round out the evening, we invite you to our beautiful Christmas market. From 23 November to 28 December, the Market Square, Platz An der Lilie and the pedestrian area all become a haven for people to enjoy the last hours of the day in a delightful atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit during the festive season. Traditional wooden huts, with the design of their facades drawing on the half-timbered style of old Hildesheim buildings, ensure a cosy atmosphere. The Christmas tree, standing more than ten metres tall, is always an aston - ishing sight, not least because it is decked with more than 7,500 LED lights. The great Christmas pyramid, small fairground rides and the romantic Ferris wheel provide entertainment for visitors young and old. Fascinating handicrafts and regional delicacies such as Hildesheim Cathedral Stollen, Hildesheim Truffles and Hildesheim Rosentaler make it a very special experience.
ADVENT MUSIC IN HILDESHEIM'S CHURCHES In addition to its enchanting Christmas market, Hildesheim offers a unique historical backdrop for the Advent season with over 30 sacred buildings. Many churches invite visitors to enjoy free musical experiences. Highlights include ‘Advent music by candlelight’ in the UNESCO World Heritage Church of St. Michael‘s and St. Magdalena‘s Church, as well as festive concerts such as Bach's Christmas Oratorio in St. Andrew‘s Church. A visit in the run-up to Christmas is always worthwhile: there are countless moments to inspire you to dream.

THROUGH FESTIVE HILDESHEIM A public Christmas tour around the festive cathedral city gives you a closer look at the historic cityscape. The tour starts at 5 pm every Friday and Saturday on the Advent weekends and includes a warming Glühwein (mulled wine) or punch per person. The route takes you along the beautifully lit streets around the historic Market Square, accompanied by the delicious fragrances of various Lebkuchen, roasted almonds and Schmalzkuchen (bite-sizeddoughnuts).
POST OFFICE ‘ZUM RENTIER’ When the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market begins, the post office ‘Zum Rentier’ also opens its doors. Children can write their letters and wishes here and post them in the wish box. From there, they are sent to the fa - mous Christmas post office in Himmelsthür, which receives mail from all over the world every year. Every letter with a return address is answered. A wonderful tradition that makes children's eyes light up.
