… lively, colourful and right in the middle of it all. Quite literally. Situated halfway between Hildesheim and Hano - ver, Sarstedt is nestled between lakes and the foothills of the Leine Uplands. The Innerste meanders gently through the town. The popular Innerste Bicycle Path runs for 105 kilometres from the Upper Harz through Sarstedt to the Leine Valley. path in Ruthe leads to Sackpipe. This is the closest you can get to the heart of the Innerste and Leine rivers. If you enjoy cycling, Sarstedt is a must-visit. In addition to the Innerste Bicycle Path, three other national bike routes pass through the town: the Leine-Heide Cycle Path, the Water- Art-Path and the Bicycle Path to Art. When you arrive in Sarstedt, it’s worth stopping at the bike rest area on the banks of the Innerste for a picnic or a short break. If you have a little more time, make sure you visit the Innerstebad Sarstedt, a two-storey indoor adventure pool that also includes an outdoor pool and a sauna paradise. The Stadtbad restaurant in the same building is well-known for its fresh and tasty cuisine. A visit to the Giftener Sea recreational area is highly recommended. Enjoy a walk around the lake, cycle or take a refreshing dip. Other popular activities include sailing, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding. For a bird’s eye view of the area, stop by the viewing platform which overlooks the entire lake. There is also a bathing lake in Heisede, where you can find a natural outdoor pool with a small beach for children. The pedestrian area in the heart of the town has small, owner-managed shops, cafés and restaurants. The weekly market on Friday afternoons is well worth a visit. Life in Sarstedt is also culturally diverse and colourful. The cultural association organises concerts, readings and open-air music events at Haus am Junkernhof throughout the year. The castle is currently closed to the public due to extensive renovation work, but even from the outside it is a real feast for the eyes. Whether at the foot of the Marienberg, in the driveway or in front of the castle gate – there are delightful photo opportunities everywhere.
