A pop can can be a panda, a robot, or a pencil holder, according to head librarian Lynda Posner, from the Champlain Library in Vankleek Hill. Kids from 7 to 16 are asked to take old pop cans and turn them into something brilliant. The Pop Can Art Contest at the Champlain Library will run from April 27 to May 16.The contest will award prizes in two categories; 11 and under, and 12 and up. All that’s needed is an empty pop can and a lot of imagination. Cans can be squished, bent, or folded, but cannot be cut.The cans can be decorated with markers, paint, flowers, duct tape, and just about any- thing else, as long as the work is original. Designs cannot be copied. Rules state one entry per person. Winners will be chosen by library staff on May 19, and cans will be displayed at the library. There will be one winner from each category. Arts council preps for first agm Prescott-Russell’s arts scene has its first overall progress report in May when le Conseil des arts Pres- cott-Russell Arts Council (CAPRAC) holds its first annual general meeting since its inauguration in March 2014. The May 7 event is at the Station 4 Sai- sons conference centre at 1422 Lavigne Street in Hammond. Registe- red CAPRAC members attending will vote on candidates for five board director positions, along with other issues and proposals raised during the evening meeting. Non-members and interested residents of the region are welcome to attend and hear the progress report on CAPRAC’s efforts during the past year to promote and support the arts and culture sector of Prescott-Russell.
