Life is Spiritual Cod has given to every believer a supreme purpose in life. We are to let Christ be seen in every area of our existence, so that people can appreciate His grace and trust Him for salvation. This is basically a spiritual life. In II Corinthians 3, beginning at verse six, we find that the Lord has "made us able minis­ ters of the new covenant." All of this is by the Spirit who gives life. This is the only possible way for it to come. Only the Spirit knows the mind of Cod. Without Him we could never understand eternal truths. He communicates this kind of knowl­ edge to us. This is a basic doctrine of our faith. The blessed Holy Spirit

must convince us of our need for Christ. We would not do it of our­ selves. He sets before us the Sav­ iour in all of His glorious person, and tells us of His great redemp­ tive work. He inclines our hearts to believe so that we will place our confidence in Christ, confessing Him openly as Lord and Master. Vrs. 9 and 10 show us that it is a life of righteousness. This is justifi­ cation which issues in regeneration and sanctification. Cod requires a righteousness of us which we are unutterably incapable of render­ ing. By the redemptive work of Christ on the cross He provides for us this perfect righteousness. This is imputed to us when we Page 43
