Apprenticeships A Pathway for All Ages and Career Stages
While apprenticeships have traditionally been seen as a route for school leavers, we recognise that learning and professional development does not stop at 18. Increasingly, adults are turning to apprenticeships, whether to upskill in their current roles or embark on entirely new career paths. At Preston College, we are seeing a growing demand for apprenticeship opportunities among professionals who are eager to enhance their skills and advance in their careers. In response to this shift, we are proud to offer a diverse range of apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships (Level 4 and above) tailored not just for young people, but also for experienced professionals looking to stay ahead in their industries. This flexibility ensures that apprenticeships remain a valuable and accessible route for career progression, no matter where individuals are in their professional journey. Employers are also recognising the numerous benefits of taking on apprentices of all ages. Adult apprentices bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a strong drive to learn - making them a vital asset to any organisation. By training apprentices in the specific skills and processes relevant to their business, employers can quickly and efficiently shape their workforce to meet current and future needs. For the apprentice, this investment from their employer is often seen as a vote of confidence, making them feel valued and motivated to contribute more to the organisation. They become highly skilled, loyal employees who understand their company culture and are committed to its growth. What’s more, apprentices gain hands-on
experience, practical skills, and recognised qualifications that enable them to build long-term, rewarding careers. This creates a cycle of growth for both the apprentice and the employer, contributing to the overall success of the business and the individual. Apprenticeships are more than just qualifications—they can open doors to new career opportunities, financial independence, and personal growth. At Preston College, we are proud to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of both individuals and industries, one apprentice at a time. Salim, (pictured right), is a Level 3 Light Goods Vehicle Service and Maintenance apprentice with Preston College and works at National Tyres Marsh Lane. He says, “Starting the LGV service and maintenance course at Preston College as an adult has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s never too late to learn, and I’m genuinely enjoying the chance to gain new skills. Education plays such a crucial role, and I’m excited about the doors this knowledge will open for me. The practice sessions are hands-on and really effective, and the tutors at Preston College are incredibly approachable. Our tutor, in particular, is highly knowledgeable and has a talent for breaking down even the most complicated subjects in a way that’s easy to understand. I’d highly recommend Preston College to anyone looking to continue their studies.” So, whether you are seeking to specialise further in your current field, or pivot to a new career, our apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships provide a robust pathway for development and success.
