Everlastingly Refreshing “Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations” (Psa. 145:13). Aged and mellow saints have so sweet a savour of Christ in them that their conversation is sweetly refresh ing to him who delights to hear of the glories of redeeming love. They have tried the anchor in the hour of storm, they have tested the armor in the day of battle, they have proved the shadow of the great rock in the burning noon tide in the weary land; therefore do they talk of those things, and of Him who is all these unto them. If we would bring up the same pearls we must dive into the same waters. —Charles H. Spurgeon. There was a day when the Church was on fire; that day seems almost too remote to influence thought and life today. The Church has lost her heart. The trouble is even worse—she is losing her head. We see on every hand the signs of the fading influ ence of the Church—empty buildings —Christians living on a low level of life—little to advertise the all-glori ous Christ—little to impress an igno rant and careless people. We are fast losing the dynamic of a quickened heart! If revival does not come speed ily, we shall lose our candlestick, the light of witness shall by our own lethargy be taken from us, and we are in danger of losing the joy of sal vation and going out in despairing darkness to meet the Lord of life. —Colin C. Kerr. + + + Revive Us Again “I have somewhat against thee, be cause thou hast left thy first love” (Rev. 2:4). Alive for Evermore “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold,. I am alive for evermore” (Rev. 1:18). John, on the Isle of Patmos, heard a voice, and fell as one dead. There is only one who can cast fear out of human life and that is Jesus. He is my Saviour. He has said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never-per ish.” Listen! He also says, “Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” —joe Henry Hankins, D.D. + + +

The Liberality o f Grace “ God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8), The freeness of the grace of God is shown here. While we were yet sin ners, God chose us in Christ. Not only did He choose us, but He took us in, and gave us a bath in the blood of His Son. He also tore our obnoxious, filthy rags from us, and threw them away.. He wove a garment of right eousness for us and dipped it in the blood of His Son and wrapped it around ;us. : He put shoes of thè Gos pel of peace on bur feet, the- ring of adoption oh our finger, and with the banner of His love over us He sent us out rejoicing in the sure knowl edge that all things must work to gether for good to them that love God. —Hyman Appelman. All Things New “Behold, I create new heavens and,'9 new egrth” .(Isa. 65:17). - “And-1 saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great- voice out of heaven say ing, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death neither sorrow, nor crying,- nei ther . shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all things new” (Rev. 21:1- 5). Our Glorious Lord “At the name of Jesus every knee should how.. ... every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of. God the Father” (Phil. 2:10, 11). . God is light and dwells in unap proachable. light. He is surrounded with a physical glory such as the finite mind of man cannot compre hend. In- that glory dwells He who had come from the glory, who clothed Himself with a human body to die the sinner’s death. He arose in glorified humanity-and is at the right hand- of God. —A. C. Gaebelein.

Testings Stimulate Faith “When thou- walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isa. 43:2), * How merciless does the blacksmith seem as he hammers the -steel; as he exposes it to the burning heat of the fire; as he plunges it Into the icy water! Is it because he is unmerciful? Ah, no! He is only tempering it to make it useful and fit for some fine instrument. Our Heavenly Father is much wiser than even the blacksmith. He knows just what kind of testing we need—whether the furnace heat, the hammer’s blow, or the water’s chill. Behind each test are His love and mercy. We need not fret. He is only tempering us for His service -that we may be strong and useful for Him. —Esther G. Oyer. + + + Heart Melody : “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the. name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:20). God asks that we present to Him a continuous flow of. thanksgiving which will be easy if we are singing, and making melody in our hearts, and. if we are filled with the Holy Spirit, of God. —Milo F. Jamison. ; + + + Blinding Doubt “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died” (John 11:21). This was the lament of both sisters," They both believed in Jesus, but they doubted His power, Their love of the. Lord is more marked than their faith, They knew Jesus,. but they did not understand Him. They believed His statement: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). They knew that other Jews believed that He was the resurrection and the life; but having eyes blinded by lack of understanding- they relegated it to the last days, and ' so missed present blessing by not ap propriating the truth. Let us possess, our possessions today. —T. C. Horton. , + + + The Word Endureth “.The word of the Lord endureth for ever” (1-Pet. 1:25J. The greatest minds have been the, expositors of the Bible. Myriads of students have studied it daily, and. have found its riches inexhaustible. The- treasures yet to' be. found are as the stars of the sky, inf’ irte m multi-- tude. —Dyson Hague.
