Objects: A magnet several nails, a box covered with black paper, and a box covered with white paper. Lesson: How many of you would enjoy going on a fishing trip with me? Yes, I see most of you like to fish. Did you ever stop to think that Jesus Christ was the best fisherman that ever lived? A c c o r d i n g to the fifth chapter of Luke, He had the power to tell the old experienced fishermen the best time and place to fish. Not only did Christ teach men how to batch fish, but He also taught them how to catch men with the Gospel. He said, “Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). You will think that this is a strange fishing trip on which I am to take you. These two bright nails are the bait There are several nails in this black box which I want to transfer to the white box. I am going to fish for the nails in the black box with these bright nails. Jesus spoke about fishing for men with men, and accordingly we shall fish for nails with nails. We must remember that Christ said, “Come ye after me.” We will let this large magnet remind us of Christ. We will place one of the bright nails on each of the magnet’s points. If we are going to catch nails with nails, they must stay close to the magnet See how easily the nails in the black box are caught and transferred to the white box. The bright nail by itself could not catch other nails. It must keep in touch with the magnet. Jesus Christ wants Christian boys and girls to be fishers for other boys and girls, taking them from a sinful life to a life of purity and service. If they are to be successful fishers, they must keep close to Christ. Did you notice that there is a cross of red on the magnet? When trying to fish for others, never f o r g e t to tell them of the Cross of Christ, and His power to cleanse from sin.
Object: A c a p i t a l “E,” made of paper. (Use a piece of paper 8Ye x 11 inches. Fold down the middle, making the size 4i4 x 11 inches. With the fold to the left, cut out the “E,” making the middle bar about an inch above the center. You now have two “E’s,” with their backs joined together. Un fold and color the center portion red, which is in the shape of a cross. Color the outside .of the “E” a light gray.) Lesson: We will let this “E” remind us of the town of Emmaus, toward which the two disciples of Christ were walking, after His resurrection. It is a gray “E,” suggesting that the disciples were sad, and so they were, for they had not believed that Jesus would rise from the dead. When Christ joined them on the road to Emmaus and in quired as to the reason for their sad ness, Cleopas answered Him, "Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?” (Luke 24:18). Christ reproved these sad disciples for their unbelief. “He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have s u f f e r e d these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:25-27). Still they did not recognize Him as the risen Christ. Christ Journeyed on with the two, and accepted their invitation to stop with them in Emmaus. We are going to let this “E” remind us of EYES in stead of Emmaus from now on, for we read, “And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of t h e i r s i g h t ” (Luke 24:31). Notice what we d i s c o v er when we open this “E.” There is a red cross in the center of it, r e m i n d i n g us of Christ. When the eyes of the disciples were opened, they recognized Christ.
Object: A piece of paper 8% x 11 inches. (Fold each end to within M inch of the middle, leaving a gap of % inch. In this space print the word “FRIENDS.” Open the flaps, and using the letters in the word “FRIENDS,” complete the following words, “SIN FUL CHILDREN, SINFUL MEN, SIN FUL LADIES and LOST." Color both sides of the flaps red, and fold them back before beginning the lesson.) Lesson: This is a rather sad-looking piece of paper. It must be representing the condition of people before Christ came into the world. We read, “SIN FUL CHILDREN, SINFUL MEN, SIN FUL LADIES, LOST.” All people were lost, and that is the reason Christ came and died on the cross, in order that they might be saved. There is only one thing to do when we realize that all people are sinful. We should tell them about Jesus and His power to save them and to take away their sins. You will notice that the flaps on this piece of paper are red, reminding us of the blood of Christ which was shed on the cross for sinners. We will fold these flaps over the sinful men, women and children, and see what happens. We no l o n g e r see sinful beings, but we now see the word “FRIENDS.” Jesus-once said, “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14). Another of God’s c o m m a n d s is found in Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” People living today, who r e a l i z e that they are sinners, should accept Christ as a personal Saviour, allow His blood to cover and cleanse their sins, and then, like the people of old, they will become the FRIENDS of Christ
