T HE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S soul, Who . . . forgiveth all thine iniquities, Who healeth all thy dis eases.” is . 103:3. HIS PERFECT WAY A correspondent of an exchange makes the following helpful comment: “Recently when reading Psalm 18, I was arrested and helped by the words in verses 30 and 32. “As for God His way is perfect.” “He maketh my way perfect.” A perfect God working for the perfection of His people. In refer ence to David, the first doubtless means that God had brought to perfection what He had begun, and performed what He had promised (see 2 Sam. 22:1). Applied to the believer they teach that in all His appointments and dealings with him there is perfect wis dom, power, and love. This is true of them separately, and true of them as a whole; all are in perfect harmony with His perfections, _God loves us with a perfect love, a love that gives all and keeps nothing back. This is true when He prospers us and also when He crosses us, true in the bitter as well as in the sweet, in the dark as well as in the bright, and if we could see clearly in His light we should be fully satis fied, and so far from wishing to alter or ichange His dispensations we should cheerfully say, “Let Him do what seem- eth Him good.” The second passage, as may be seen from the context, means that God had fulfilled Davd’s designs and prospered his endeavours notwithstanding the power and malice of his enemies, and his own personal weaknesses and fail ures. In reference to the Christian's way, it assures us that God will carry on and bring to perfection His own work in the soul. Have I through grace chosen the way of faith, love, obedience, and entire devotion to Him self, He will perfect that which con- cerneth me, and by His might)? power fully igratify my every desire for what
233 is truly good, and make my Work of faith complete (Psalm 138:8; ? Thess. 1 : 11 ). To all who willingly follow Jesus Christ and make His cause their own, these words convey the assurance that they will be fully conformed to His image, enter into His joy, and share His triumph and glorious destiny. What an encouragement to commit our way into His hands, and rest in the full confidence that however dark and try ing the way may be here and now, yet He is working on our behalf, that He is in the way we take, and is leading us on to present us faultless in the pres ence of His glory with exceeding joy.” AMONG CHRISTIAN WORKERS Will any workman malign another because he helpeth him to do his mas ter’s work? Yet, alas! how common-is this heinous crime amidst men of parts and eminency in the church! They can secretly blot the reputation of such as stand cross to their own; and what they cannot for shame do in plain and open terms, lest they be proved palp able liars and slanderers, they‘will do in general and malicious intentions, raising suspicions where they cannot fasten accusations. And so far are some gone in this satanical vice, that it is their common practice, and a con siderable part of their business, to keep down the estimation of those they dis like, and defame others in the slyest and most plausible way; and some go so far|. that they are unwilling that any that are abler than themselves should come into their pulpits, lest they should be applauded above them selves. A fearful thing that any man who hath the least of the fear of God should so envy at God’s gifts, and had rather that his carnal hearers were un converted, and the drowsy not awak ened, than that it should be done by another who may be preferred before them.—Baxter.
