The Interpretation and Application of the Psalms. 1. They have their local interpreta tion and applications to those who lived at the time of their writing. Of course Psalm 51 is David’s confession of his great sins and his sincere repent ance. 2. They have an individual applica tion. If a child of God falls into sin he will find Psalm 51 the expression of his heart when he comes in repentance and confession to God. ' 3. They have a wide prophetical in terpretation and dispensational appli cation. The 22nd Psalm is prophetic of the Messiah’s death and has been fulfilled. The 2nd Psalm is prophetic of the coming subjection of the nations to the Son of Man, God’s King, and will be fulfilled at the Second Coming of Christ. This explains the Imprecatory Psalms as 35, 79, 109. 4. Then the Psalms have a Messianic interpretation and application. We do not dbubt the 22nd is of Christ in His work on Calvary. It opens with His cry on the Croas. The 110th speaks as truly of Christ as Priest and finds its fulfillment in Heb. 6:20. Just as sure ly does the 45th Psalm speak of Him as the Coming King. Who shall say how many of the Psalms are Messianic? A converted Jewish Rabbi said, ’“They all have their application in some way to the Messiah.” “Jehovah is my Shepherd” is fulfilled in “I am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.” Ps. 23:1; Jno. 10:11.
