T HE K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S haying assurance 'that the girl would be converted. At the time fixed the girl arrived and the first thing she said was, “Oh, I could not wait until today. I thought perhaps the Lord might come before, so I went to my room hnd re ceived Him as my Saviour and have given myself to Him.” It was a'gen uine conversion and through her the mother and cousin were persuaded to go and hear the Gospel with the result that they also received Christ. The girl’s visit was cut short by bad news from home, so she was here but a few days, but through that invitation to a Bible class, two women found Christ, and returned home to witness for Him, and the invalid entered into the im mediate presence of the Lord she had just found in time. The Great Physician Did the Work A Bible womon was called to the telephone in response to a most prac tical, though unusual, request. A phy sician, introducing himself, said: “I have a patient who is suffering from a complete nervous collapse and is threat ened with the loss of her reason. I have called on you because I believe that you can help her more than I. She needs positive assurance concerning her salvation and absolute faith in God and His Word.” The physician, him self, brought about a most satisfactory interview. The young lady confessed that college instruction and associa tions had shaken all faith in God and His revelation of a plan of salvation. On confessing the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour and claiming John 5:24 as her own, she said, “My mother’s pray ers, have at last been answered.” A recent report declares the remedy ef fectual and the Great Physician again proven to be able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Saved by a Substitute At the close of a lesson on Romans, a visitor to the class asked to speak to the teacher. She told of having been raised in a Christian home by a sweet mother who had since gone to be with her Lord. Indifference to spiritual things had come as a result of neglect and so she was in a receptive mood to listen to the teachings of New Thought, and Christian Science. Her remark concerning what these had to give her was illuminating and comprehensive! She said, “Why, I found all these teach ings throwing me back upon myself, and I was the poorest one in all the world to be thrown on my own re-
247 sources!” She was plunged into such despair that she contemplated suicide. Coming into the class on Romans, she heard them reciting in concert the vari ous divisions of the book, one of which was, “The acquittal through a Substi tute.” She grasped at the word, Sub stitute, as a hungry child would grasp for bread. “That is just what I need, a substitute.” A careful opening of the Word of God showed her the way of salvation and she joyously accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and went out with all her heart yearn ings satisfied. gte ate THE ONE TALENT MAN He couldn’t sing and he couldn’t play, He couldn’t speak and he couldn’t pray. He’d try to read but break right down, Then sadly grieve or smile or frown. While some with talents ten begun He started out with only one. “With this,” he said, “I’ll do my best, And trust the Lord to do the rest." His trembling hand and tearful eye Gave forth a world of sympathy, When all alone with one distressed He whispered words that calmed that breast. And little children learned to know When grieved and troubled where to go. He loved the birds, the flowers, the •trees, And loving him, his friends loved these. His homely features lost each trace Of homeliness, and in his face There beamed a kind and tender light That made surrounding features bright. When illness came, he smiled at fears And bade his friends to dry their tears, He said “Goodby,” and all confess “He made of life a grand success.” The one talent man.
