days. Jesus and His friends were at a home for dinner, and while they were eating Mary quietly slipped up to the place where Jesus was, with her costly perfume, and poured it upon His head and feet (John 12:3). The people were busy eating and at first very likely did not notice Mary or what she had done, but you know that even as Mary stood before them, they could not see the love that was in her heart for Jesus, but pretty soon they began to smell something, O so sweet, the precious ointment that she had poured upon Jesus her Lord. Now everybody could see Mary’s love for Jesus by what she had done. Some of the disciples pres ent, especially Judas (Jno. 12:4) found fault when they saw what Mary had done. They said the money spent for this fine perfume might have been given to the poor. Jesus did not like to have them find fault with Mary, for she had done what she could and Jesus was pleased with her, not» because she had done something great, hut just what she could. Now boys and girls, we can not do the great big things yet, but we can do our best. Jesus said something very lovely about Mary and her beau tiful act. This is what He said, “She hath done what she could,” and that wherever the Gospel, which is the good news about Jesus was preached, this story should be told of Mary.- Jesus was trying to teach the people that it was better to show our love to people while they are alive than after they are dead. “She hath done what she
could.” Let us say these wonderful -words over so we: will always remem ber them, and that will help us to show our love for Jesus by doing what we can, that is, by doing pur best, just as Mary did. When we truly love some one we want to do something for that one to show our love. We know how mother loves us and is always doing something for us, and it is a joy for her because she love® us so much. Just as Mary had received much from Jesus, so let us think of some of the- great gifts and blessings we have received— schools, . churches, Christian homes, health and happiness. Let us give our best to our Lord. BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By E. G. Hansell March 6, 1921. Jesus Among His Friends. Matt. 26:1-13. Introduction: DRAW the heart of purity and the heart of sin, I.
