T HE K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S where the sharp thorns had been pressed into His flesh. Judas had be trayed Jesus, and other wicked men had nailed Him to the cross and Jesus even though He was God’s Son, suffered as He hung there. Think of the loneli ness, the awful weight of all our sins resting upon Him, and even at this time, Jesus was not thinking of Himself or His suffering; He thought of His mo ther, His disciples, the dying thief, and even prayed for the people who put Him to death. While Jesus was dying on the cross there were some who walked by and mocked and made fun of Him; some said for Him to come down from the cross if He was really God’s Son. Jesus was God’s Son and did have power to save Himself even then, but He knew that the people could not be saved from their sins, unless He died for them. Jesus came into this world to die for us and He must bear it, or all the people in the world would be lost. Just think how much God loved us to let Jesus, His only Son die such an awful death to save us. There were two thieves crucified at the same time with Jesus. One of the thieves made fun of Jesus because He did not save Him self. The other thief was sorry for Jesus, when He saw how pure and lov ing Jesus was, and he felt how sinful he was, and this thief believed on Jesus, and as he hung on the cross he turned his eyes toward Jesus, and said, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.” Even in His great suf fering, how it would gladden the heart of Jesus to be able to help this poor dying thief who called to Him. This is what Jesus answered the dying thief,

“Today shalt thou be with Me in para dise.” Even the sun grew dark and there was darkness over all the land while Jesus was dying. The last words Jesus said on the cross were, “It is fin ished.” Jesus meant that the work which He had come to do and the suf ferings which He had come to bear for us, were finished. The only thing left for us to do, is to believe in this Jesus -—our Saviour—and live for Him. How can we refuse to do this, when He loves us so? He loved us so much that He gave His life for us. Oh, how precious life is to every one of us. I wonder how many of us have ever suffered very much for Jesus’ sake? What do you tlhink of boys and girls and grown up folks who are afraid to speak for Jesus or to pray to Him; of those who are ashamed to own Jesus as their Lord and Saviour? O, how we ought to love Jesus, who has done So much for us. Our memory verse tells us how much He has done for us, and it is one of the most wonderful verses in the whole Bible.
