Giving Thanks and Reflecting on the Many Wonderful Things in Life

I have a lot to be thankful for. In this season, there are many wonderful things to reflect on.

I am thankful to wake up each morning and know I get to do what I love — go into the office and take care of our patients. I honestly would not be working as a cosmetic dentist if I didn’t have a passion for it. I look forward to every smile makeover and every positive change I am a part of. I get to work closely with patients to change their smile and deliver incredible results. It’s hard work — it’s artistic work — but it’s also very satisfying to see the end result and to watch the patient smile when they see the progress we made. It’s something that brings me a lot of joy and drives my passion for cosmetic dentistry. Another thing that brings me a lot of joy and I am very thankful for is my family. My youngest son recently turned 13. In October, we celebrated this milestone with his bar mitzvah. He started the seventh grade this year as well, and I’m very proud of him. I look forward to seeing him come into his own. My daughter, who is 22, is currently going to school to become a dentist. She is very much carrying on the family tradition. I look forward to seeing where her education and her future career takes her. I have no doubt she learned a lot from her dad! My oldest son, who is 24, is also carrying on the family tradition in his own way. He is actually running the Lumineux Oral Essentials business. By that notion, you might even call Oral Essentials a family business! He helps keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes. Of course, I am also incredibly grateful for my staff at our office. They are responsible for ensuring the dental spa works from start to finish. Without my staff, we wouldn’t be where we are today. They are dedicated to making sure everything goes off without a hitch.

Finally, there are our patients. As you know, we see patients from all over the world. They rely on us to get things just right. This means I am constantly challenged as a dentist. I know each patient’s time is incredibly valuable, and we must make the most of the time we have together — especially when they’re flying in from across the country or around the world. I’m most grateful for the trust our patients put in me and my staff because they know they will get extraordinary results. We have worked hard to become a highly respected dental spa known all around the world, and this hard work is reflected in our patients’ smiles.

3 Tips to Get Your Picky Eaters to Eat the Veggies Their Bodies Need

Get Ready for Good Nutrition in November!

2. Cheese It Up! Cheese can undoubtedly make veggies more appealing for your little ones. When making their favorite mac ‘n’ cheese dish, consider adding broccoli and peas to the sauce. The cheese will mask most of the veggie flavor, and your kids won’t care as much! Another option for really picky eaters is to purée vegetables, like sweet potatoes, into the cheese sauce. The bright orange color will mask the inclusion, ensuring your little one gets a good share of fiber-rich nutrients while being none the wiser. 3. Get ‘Beefy’ With Your Veggies. If your kids are fans of meat-based pasta sauces, meatballs, or sloppy Joes, you can substitute some of the ground beef with finely chopped mushrooms. Since the meaty texture of the tasty fungi is similar to ground beef, it’ll be hard for kids to notice the difference. Riced cauliflower can also be mistaken for tender ground beef when cooked in darker sauces and gravies. While it can be frustrating to negotiate with a picky eater, especially during the holidays, don’t lose hope. Try out these three tasty tips and observe Good Nutrition Month with a little more ease.

It might seem strange that November — when millions of Americans gather around the dinner table to show gratitude through lavish Thanksgiving feasts — has recently been dubbed Good Nutrition Month. But it’s true; now is the time to pay extra attention to the nutrients your body needs to maintain its healthy state through the new year. While mindful eating is a habit families know they should practice year-round, once the holiday season kicks into full gear, it becomes much easier to overlook. With colder weather keeping you inside, the cravings for heartier meals and delicious baked goods leave parents struggling to encourage their picky eaters to consume anything nutritious. If you’re finding it more difficult than usual to convince your child to eat their greens, here are some tips to keep in mind! 1. Let Them Help. If your child has grown out of the toddler stage and is still resistant to eating their vegetables, child psychologists say you should have them help with the cooking process. The excitement and anticipation that comes with getting to prepare the vegetables can encourage kids to try a couple bites during dinnertime.

3 Major Causes of Bad Breath

Bad breath is one of the most common oral afflictions in the world. Millions of people suffer from bad breath, also known as halitosis. However, in many cases, bad breath is often one of the easiest issues to treat and reverse. It all comes down to identifying the source.

onion and garlic will also produce bad breath, but odors caused by these foods are generally only temporary.

Dry mouth is another common source of bad breath. Dry mouth itself has a number of causes, including many medications which list it as a side effect. Because saliva production is lower, food particles are not as readily broken down. At the same time, the microbiome within the mouth cannot be properly regulated. The result is bad breath. Dry mouth is also the primary source of “morning breath.” Another major cause of bad breath is infection. People may experience infection following oral surgery or injury. The removal of wisdom teeth, for example, is a common source of bad breath. Not only can food become trapped in the cavity left behind, but if that food is not properly removed, infection can form. Tooth decay and gum disease also lead to bad breath. In almost every case, bad breath (when it lasts for several days or more) is a sign that something is wrong within the mouth. It is important to identify the source of bad breath so it may be treated. Bad breath never has to be permanent.

Oftentimes, bad breath is a sign of improper brushing, flossing,

and rinsing. Food particles may become trapped in between teeth. Larger food particles may not be properly broken down by saliva. As food remains trapped, bacteria consumes its sugars. While the most common byproduct of this bacteria is oral plaque, it also produces an unpleasant odor. Additionally, eating certain foods like

The Most Stressful Time of Year 2 Ways to Manage Stress During the Hectic Holiday Season

The holiday season is steeped in tradition, but there is one aspect that doesn’t often get talked about: stress. For many people, the last several weeks of the year are also the most stressful weeks of the year. To handle stress, a lot of people fall back on bad habits, including overindulging in sugar and alcoholic beverages. While stress has many sources, much of it comes from feeling overwhelmed with all of the holiday activities. There are family dinners, shopping excursions, home decorating, gift exchanges, office parties, and more. These obligations are mixed in with normal everyday duties, including work, ferrying the kids or grandkids to and from school, and running errands. But you can defeat that stress! Here are a few ideas to help. Give yourself a break. There is no reason to rush or take on every task. Many so-called obligations during the holiday season are optional. Allow yourself to say no and take a break when you need it — no questions asked. When you don’t take a break, you put yourself at risk mentally and physically. Stress can keep your blood pressure elevated, and the American Heart Association reports that heart attacks are more prevalent during December and January. Upward of 33% more coronary episodes occur during these two months than at any other time.

What can you do? Step away from the people and the rush. Find a quiet place to relax, and give yourself a minimum of 10 minutes to breathe — literally. Breathing exercises can do wonders to center you and change your state of mind during a busy day. Meditation apps like Calm can also help relax and center you. Elevate your heart rate. Whether you go to the gym or work out at home, making time for exercise is one of the healthiest things you can do during this time of year. Even better, you can use exercise time to take a break from holiday obligations. Exercise helps reduce stress, elevate your mood, and manage anger, frustration, and anxiety. But here’s the thing: You have to keep up with it. Researchers at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences found that taking a break from exercising for a few days or a week will bring you back down. All it takes is 30 minutes to an hour a day, and you’ll be feeling great all season long. The choice of doing physical activity is up to you. It just takes commitment!

you’re living among French royalty. Of course, if you’d prefer lodging with the commoners, plenty of quaint bed-and-breakfasts exist just across the Aude river. With rustic cafes, fresh crepes, and bustling crowds making their way down the twisting cobblestone streets, the surface-level experience of Carcassonne would be enticing to anyone wanting to explore the French countryside. But for those who want to delve into the history of this storied castle, grand narratives await you. Just walking the walls of Carcassonne paints a picture of the past. While the outer fortifications were built by Louis IX and Phillip III, a section of the inner wall is far older. The red brick used in this part of the construction dates back to before the existence of France itself. Roman troops first fortified the hillside town around 100 BCE, giving every stone of this site a story to tell. If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing medieval life for yourself, your adventure awaits in Carcassonne.

Carcassonne The Real Magic Kingdom

Every year, tourists flock to Disney’s “Magic Kingdom” and marvel at Cinderella’s iconic castle. As fun as it is to see this Florida-based attraction, it would be even more magical to step back in time and visit a real medieval citadel. What if you could walk the same ramparts as Roman legionnaires and climb the same towers as French kings? If this idea gives you goosebumps, pack your bags for Carcassonne, France. A four-hour train ride from Paris, towering above the rolling vineyards of southern France, you’ll find one of the most intact, accessible

castles in Europe. With sweeping, concentric walls and 53 elegant towers, the Cité de Carcassonne is a breathtaking sight. Once an impenetrable border fortress between the kingdoms of France and Aragon, the gates now stand open to anyone curious enough to walk its cobblestone streets. In fact, you can stay in the ancient city yourself. The five-star Hotel de la Cité Carcassonne occupies a former bishop’s palace and overlooks the inner ramparts of the fortress. With medieval tapestries and gorgeous woodwork in the hotel’s interior, you’ll feel like
