“The goal is to translate the urban strate- gic priorities into action,” Leduc said. The se m inar includes guidance to help outline present and future goals for the co mm unit y , how to achieve those goals, and within what ti m efra m e. Cost for the se m inar will be $5000. The college consultant group also offers a follow-up co mm unit y -based workshop on strategic planning that would involve repre- sentatives fro m various stakeholder groups within the m unicipalit y . This follow-up stra- tegic planning workshop would range over several da y s and cost $7000. “Most strategic plans allow stakeholders to participate,” said Ma y or Jean-Paul St- Pierre.The m a y or noted that council would need to review and discuss results of the August strategic planning se m inar before deciding if contract with the consultants for the broader follow-up workshop.

Chief Ad m inistrative Officer Jean Leduc presented council with a verbal report dur- ing a Jul y 4 special session on a strategic orientation session planned for council m e m bers and depart m ent directors at the end of August. Strategic planning consultants fro m St. Lawrence College in Kingston will present a one-da y se m inar to assist council m e m bers and depart m ent heads with reviewing, as- sessing, and deciding on present and future priorities for the m unicipalit y .

EMBRUN | If the counties council agrees there could be a change to the official plan for Russell Township to make room for more future residential development. Before m aking a final break for the su m - m er, Russell Township council held a last special afternoon m eeting Jul y 4. One of the two ite m s on the public agenda was a resolution to ask the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) to approve an a m end m ent to Russell Township’s Official Plan. The a m end m ent, if approved, will create a site-specific change to the existing co m - m ercial zoning designation for properties at 767 Notre Da m e Street and 411 New York Central Avenue. Both lots are part of the overall co mm er- cial zone for those two streets. The site-spe- cific a m end m ent would allow also li m ited m ulti-unit residential develop m ent on both lots in future. The t y pe of m ulti-unit devel- op m ent would be restricted to m ediu m - and high-densit y housing of 17 units per net hectare. Most of these allowed t y pes of residential develop m ent would be row house, stacked dwellings, and low-profile apart m ent buildings. The resolution now goes to the UCPR council for review and reco mm endations fro m its planning depart m ent.
