More than half the orders Covington fills are from cus- tomers who need their products within 24-48 hours. The company owns 50 trailers and a half-dozen semis and will service a radius of 60-100 miles from Edgerton or Water- loo so it can guarantee same-day delivery. Among its cus- tomers are companies in the poultry, baking, automotive, heavy equipment, food service, and aerospace sectors. Some customers receive deliveries daily. One gets large kitted boxes, stapled to a pallet, strapped and delivered straight to its production line. The Impact Of COVID-19 Like many other converters, Covington Box & Packag- ing has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in both negative and positive ways. Because the company sup- plies Tier One and Tier Two automotive companies, which experienced dramatic business declines caused by plant shutdowns during the pandemic, Covington’s sales of au- tomotive parts packaging suffered. One part of Coving- ton’s business that has not suffered, however, is the sale of cremation containers and corrugated cloth covered caskets.
