COMFORT CONNECTIONS
OUR HARDWORKING TEAM Making Everything We Do Possible
As we approach Labor Day, I can’t help but give a nod to the amazing team I have at Aire Serv of the Mid-Hudson Valley. If it weren’t for them, I couldn't help as many people. The work we do wouldn’t get completed without these folks. So, I wanted to use this opportunity to give thanks to my employees. We've grown so much because of their dedication to what we do and to the people we help, and I am grateful for all their hard work and perseverance, especially during those really hot days this summer. Everyone plays a crucial role on our team — no position is more important than the other. For example, our office staff keep our team organized and functioning at the highest possible level. If our technicians need parts, the office ensures they get them. If I didn’t have Sandi and Nick on the front line scheduling appointments and dispatching our technicians, it sure would be a lot more difficult to get our work done and keep our customers informed. Likewise, our team members in the field, Brandon, Dave, Eric, Matt, Tom, and Liam, understand how we like to do things here at Aire Serv and aim to help our customers with whatever issues their HVAC system might be having, even just keeping the system in tiptop shape if that’s what’s called for. It’s great to see them work as a team and support one another. They do their best to tackle whatever challenges they encounter, and their hard work and diligence never go unnoticed or unappreciated, even if I’m not the best at saying so. There are several things that my team members have in common. They enjoy working with their hands and solving problems, even when it requires hard physical labor which is an essential component of working in the trades. If you are a problem solver and love to take things apart and put them back together, understand how things work, and enjoy working alongside a team of like-minded people, you might consider looking into a trade school and especially HVAC. There are many jobs available right now, and the HVAC field needs more people who are willing to put in the work and dedication to serving the heating and air conditioning needs of our communities.
The best part about apprenticing in the trades is that while you’re learning how things work and how to repair them when they aren’t working, you can get paid for doing it. So you won’t end up saddled with a ton of loans when you graduate, and your skills will be in demand. Trade jobs are essential to our economy and help our homes and businesses run smoothly and efficiently. People may overlook the importance and necessity of trade workers from time to time, especially when things are running smoothly, but they are crucial to our way of life and to preserving the comforts we have come to depend on. As any HVAC technician will tell you, each day on the job is different, and you will learn something new every day. If you or someone you know has the aptitude and mindset to excel in a trade, I implore you to apply (or to encourage them to apply) and begin the journey. If you want to learn more about our Aire Serv team and how we all got started in this industry, you can check out our Meet the Team page on our website: AireServ.com/Mid-Hudson-Valley/About/Meet-The-Team.
Happy Labor Day to my hardworking team! I’m grateful for each of you, and I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the future.

WANT TO PAINT YOUR KITCHEN CABINETS?
Read This Crash Course First
Have you stepped into your kitchen in the last few weeks and thought it could use more color? If so, you’re not alone. Colorfully painted kitchen cabinets are a hot trend right now in home decor, to the point that HGTV released a step-by-step guide to the painting process this winter! However, just because you want to paint your kitchen cabinets doesn’t mean you should — at least not before reading the argument for each side and getting painting tips from the pros. 2 Reasons to Paint Your Cabinets — And 2 Reasons Not To The Pros: • You could increase your home’s value. Painted cabinets are hot, so buyers may be willing to pay a premium for them (unless they hate your color choice). Plus, light-colored cabinets may make your kitchen seem bigger. • If you hate your cabinets, you’ll save money. Painting cabinets yourself is time-consuming, but it’s much cheaper than springing for brand-new wood. The Cons: • It’s a pain in the butt. Painting your cabinets yourself means disassembling them, making your kitchen unusable for days, and doing hours of manual labor. You can avoid some of this
hassle by hiring professional, but the price of the job will increase. • Your mistakes might haunt you. Maybe you’ll regret your color choice, maybe your paint job will be uneven, or maybe
that primer spill just won’t come out of your grout. These are risks you’ll need to take if you choose to paint. Painting Tips and Tricks 1. Deep-clean before you paint. According to HGTV, it’s NOT a waste of effort to clean your cabinets before you sand them. In fact, it’s a vital step to remove grease that could ruin your paint job.
2. Label every panel and draw a cabinet map. Trust us — numbering all of your drawers and doors makes reassembly easy. If you don’t do this, you’ll end up crying on the kitchen floor in the middle of a cabinet puzzle. 3. Get scientific about your finishes. According to Remodelista, you should “forget matte and eggshell finishes and opt for semi-gloss, gloss, or satin instead — hardy finishes that are easy to clean.”
It’s That Time of Year Again SCHEDULE YOUR HVAC SYSTEM TUNE-UP TODAY!
SCAN ME!
By cleaning your unit and changing the filters, your system will work more efficiently, which will in turn save you money on your energy bill.
As the leaves slowly change colors and we pull out our sweaters and jackets in preparation for the colder months, it’s also time to schedule your biannual HVAC system tune-up. You want to test your HVAC system a few months before the weather begins to get cooler so you can prevent unexpected system failures and reduce the likelihood of a surprise repair bill this winter.
3. Repairs: While your technician inspects your unit, they may find items that need repairing. They can either make those repairs that day or schedule a follow-up appointment. When you schedule your tune-up in advance of the cold weather, these repairs can be completed before the colder months arrive. Completing these repairs now can save you from having a costlier repair in the future and will prolong the life of your existing system. 4. Preparation: By scheduling your tune-up in advance, your technician can spot potential problems that could arise during the winter. You can then prepare by having these items replaced or repaired, or by at least looking into the solutions recommended by your technician. Either way, inspecting your HVAC system will ensure that your system remains trouble-free and that you and your family stay warm this winter. Don’t let winter arrive without getting a heating system tune-up. Snuggling up in blankets on a cold winter night is cozy and fun only when it isn’t done out of necessity. So give Aire Serv of the Mid- Hudson Valley a call today to schedule your appointment.
Here are four benefits of scheduling a tune-up with Aire Serv of the Mid-Hudson Valley.
1. Inspection: A technician will give your heating system a thorough going-over to ensure it’s working effectively. They will be listening for odd sounds and looking for evidence that parts are not performing as they should. Regular maintenance can help prolong the life of your unit and save you money in the long run. 2. Cleaning: Since you haven’t used your heating system in a while, dust or grime may have accumulated, making it harder to produce heat. Or maybe there is damage from a summer storm that could cause a problem once the system starts up. A technician will remove any debris, dust, and grime from the unit and replace the air filters.

Time to Turn Up the Heat! But Be Sure to Protect Your Eyes
• Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from the warm air and prevent your tears from evaporating. • Typically, when driving, we focus on the road so intently that we may forget to blink. So be sure to blink every few seconds to keep your eyes lubricated and refreshed. Preventing Dry Eyes at Home: • Purchase a humidifier to restore moisture in your home. Humidifiers release water vapor or steam into the air, which will combat dry, itchy eyes. • Be sure you’re drinking plenty of water . These extra fluids will help keep your body hydrated—including your eyes. If you can, limit your coffee intake as caffeine can be dehydrating. If you’re suffering from dry eyes or have questions about eye health, contact your eye doctor for more information, resources, and treatments. If your HVAC system isn’t doing your eyes any favors, please allow us at Aire Serv of the Mid-Hudson Valley to be of service. Our technicians would be happy to look your system over and answer any questions you may have or propose some solutions to combat the dry air in your home.
For most of us, staying warm during the colder months involves mountains of blankets, fuzzy socks, sweaters, and cranking up your heating system. Although heaters are necessary during the colder months, they can also contribute to uncomfortable physical conditions, such as itchy, dry eyes. Here’s everything you need to know about reducing or even preventing dry eyes during the winter. How Do Heaters Lead to Dry Eyes? Using a furnace or space heaters can produce hot, dry air that can harm your eyes — especially if you wear contact lenses. The heat from your HVAC system causes tears and moisture to evaporate from your eyes, leaving them unprotected. Even turning the heat vents on in your car can cause dry eyes. Running a heater regularly in your home reduces moisture in the air, leading to eye irritation.
Preventing Dry Eyes while Driving : • Direct warm air to your body, not your face.
Having the heat constantly blow on your face while driving is the leading cause of dry eye. Redirecting the air is the best way to reduce this issue.

DIY Fall Scavenger Hunt for the Family
READY, SET, SCAVENGE! EXPLORE WHAT AUTUMN OFFERS
As the leaves begin to fall and the air becomes cooler, it is a sure sign that summer is slowly coming to an end. Though we will miss the pool parties and backyard barbecues, there is still lots to look forward to during fall. Autumn is known as the season of change, and getting the kids outside allows them to understand and explore the changes going on in the world around them. Creating a fall scavenger hunt is a great way for kids to practice their reading and observation skills, all while still enjoying the outdoors. Signs of Fall Creating a specific scavenger hunt for signs of autumn is a great way to enhance your child’s observation skills.
4. Changes among people’s apparel (such as jackets, hats, and scarves) 5. Animals hibernating or migrating Fall Color Wheel The best way to explore autumn’s colors is by creating a fall color wheel hunt! Since the leaves are the surest signs of fall, kids can compare and contrast the different colors of each leaf they find, making this a fun hands-on activity. You can either download a color wheel template from the internet or make one yourself! All you need is a piece of paper that’s big enough for kids to tape the leaves onto and different areas for the colors red, yellow, orange, and brown. This will help kids see the different kinds of leaves as well as their visual changes during the season. The weather is getting colder, but it doesn’t mean you have to hibernate too! Bundle up with a cozy sweater and beanie, and encourage the family to get outside to explore all of the wonderful changes autumn has to offer.
Consider the following for your signs-of-fall hunt:
1. Leaves that have changed colors 2. Tree seeds or pine cones that have fallen to the ground 3. Items from a fall harvest (like pumpkins, sunflowers, or hay bales)
