Athletes who become members of this elite club during the season are recognized “course side” immediately following their qualifying run. New members will receive (one-time only for the life of the program) the following: • Varsity Letterman Jacket (personally delivered to your Fire Department by a LION representative; see World Event exception below) • Embroidered Patch • Official Member Certificate • Challenge Coin Annual Induction Ceremony: This is an optional event for new inductees from the season and is held annually at the World Challenge. Inductees are introduced, invited to walk the line of fellow members celebrating and welcoming them to the Den, and will participate in a group photo.
Jacket Issue Exception: Athletes that enter the LION’s Den via their run at the World Challenge event will receive their letterman’s jacket onsite to save international shipping and customs fees.
THE DR. PAUL O. DAVIS III HALL OF FAME PROGRAM
Membership into the Dr. Paul O. Davis III Hall of Fame (HOF) is the crowning achievement for inductees, representing the highest level of peer recognition for a firefighter athlete or sponsor/partners’ contribution to our sport based on their past or present achievements and involvement.
HOF Membership is divided into three (3) categories: • Champion Category – athletes who have excelled on the course with event wins and placed finishes, Region, U.S. and World Championship Titles held, U.S. and world records held, induction into the LION’s Den, etc. • Legends Category – any person, department or sponsor that has made a sig- nificant contribution to the success and history of the Challenge. This includes volunteers, sponsors, hosts, and outstanding athletes who may have had their career cut short by illness or injury. • International Category – athletes outside of the U.S. who may only have a chance to run at Worlds. This includes world record holders and top 3 finishers at Worlds.
Annually an open call for nominations is held during the month of January. Nominations are reviewed by a volunteer committee composed of former athletes and sponsors.
Induction Ceremony: this annual event is held “course side” before the LION’s Den celebration on Friday afternoon at the World Challenge event.
Inductees receive: •
Commemorative Medal mounted in a custom box
• •
Embroidered Patch
Challenge Coin
RECORD HOLDER PROGRAM The TFT® Firefighter Challenge Championship Series offers four (4) record holder programs for athletes: State, Regional, National, and World. • Each program recognizes the athlete and team with the fastest time in the applicable subcategories. Record holders receive a commemorative patch and certificate. • Record holders retain their title until it is broken by another athlete. • The State and World record holder programs originated when the Challenge was founded and at the time did not recognize all of today’s subcategories. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the new divisions and subcategories were added, and some previous subcategories were retired. • The new Regional and National Record Holder programs launched at the beginning of the 2023 season and recognizes achievements made in the recognized subcategories from 2023 onward.
