Slot Formula Determination: Each hour allocated in the finals can accommodate twelve (12) races. A race encompasses two (2) individuals or teams. This means in one (1) hour we can run twelve (12) races, which total twenty-four (24) individuals or teams. Example : If five (5) hours have been allocated for the Individual Category finale, this equals sixty (60) races which total one hun- dred twenty (120) individual category athletes. • Step 1 : We first determine the amount of time available to conduct the final title event so we can operate within a pub- lished schedule out of respect for our athletes, guests, spectators, volunteers and crew members.
• Step 2 : We then determine the number of individuals and/or teams that we can race within the allocated event time.
• Step 3 : We then take the ‘total’ number of registered athletes and/or teams in each main category, i.e. Individual, Tandem and Relay, and divide it by the number of athletes and/or teams that can be accommodated during the allotted event time. This develops the percentage formula we use. » Example : 400 athletes are registered in the Individual Category. Five (5) hours have been set aside for the Individual Category finale, which can accommodate 120 athletes. We divide 120 by 400, which equals 30% of the total body in that category. • Step 4 : We then take the percentage (%) and divide it by the number of athletes and/or teams registered in each division and subcategory. » Example : there are 42 athletes in our Division 2, Under Age 40 Male subcategory. We take 42 and multiply it x 30% = 12.6 athletes. This is the number of athletes and/or teams in that division and/or subcategory advancing into the finals (see below policies on rounding up). Minimum Slot Counts: The amount of time to conduct our finale events has been predetermined for scheduling purposes. Below is our anticipated ‘min- imum’ number of slots that will be offered in each main category. The breakdown of slots in each division and subcategory will be released at the event once the final registration numbers have been received.

General Policies:
• Rounding Up: when the percentage formula derives an odd number it will be rounded up. Example: 45 athletes x 30% formu- la = 13.5. This will be rounded up to 14 to provide an equal pairing. Had the number been 12.5 it would have remained at 12. • Pairs of Two: when possible, ‘pairs of two’ will be advanced from the same subcategory to maintain an ‘apple to apple’ com- petition run. When the formula is applied and this does not occur, the next athlete on the list for the same subcategory will advance to create an equal pairing. • Unable to Make Finale: If an athlete is unable to use their slot due to injury, schedule conflict, or any other reason, the next athlete in line in the same subcategory will advance. Athletes unable to compete in the finale should inform the Timer ASAP so they can give ample notice to athletes in line.
