Guide to the Challenge

COURSE OVERVIEW (PENALTIES AND DISQUALIFICATIONS) WELCOME TO THE LION® ARENA OF THE BRAVE Our challenge course may have earned the famous tagline of ‘the toughest two minutes in sports’ but one thing is for certain: having a full understanding of our five (5) evolutions and the infractions that will result in a penalty or disqualification can greatly improve your performance on the course.

Please understand that an athlete’s health and safety is our top priority. Our Course Officials will stop any athlete who creates or is in a dangerous, unsafe, or stressful condition. General Infractions:

Turnout Gear Violation: 15-second penalty Turnout Gear is inspected after the athlete completes their race. Athletes found with a violation will have the penalty time added to their final run time. Athletes, when in doubt, should have their gear pre-inspected by a Course Official on day one of the event to ensure all requirements are met. This will give the athlete ample time to remedy the situation before they run. Refer to pages 30-31 for a complete overview of our turnout gear requirements. Delay of Sport: 10-second penalty When an athlete has been instructed to enter the course at the starting line, they must immediately get into position inside the designated square in preparation of the Starting Official signaling the start of the race with the blow of a whistle. Unsportsmanlike Behavior: Disqualified Because our athletes are public servants, we hold them to higher standards. The following actions are prohibited: • disruption of race caused by outburst or incitement • skipping the race without proper notice • destruction of course equipment • continuing to shout at staff, course officials, volunteers, and fellow athletes after a verbal warning has been issued by a course official instructing the athlete to stand down. Non-Retrieval of Dropped Items: Disqualified Failure to retrieve and replace ANY dropped equipment or personal items worn and/or carried onto the course BEFORE advancing.

Play Interference: Disqualified • If any family member or significant other enters the course while play is still active in either lane. • Any interference on the course, including intentional contact, with the opposing competitor. Exceeding Maximum Allowed Run Time: Disqualified • Failure to fully complete Evolutions 1 and 2 before three (3) minutes has elapsed. • Failure to complete the course in the required time as outlined on Page 7.
