Starting Area The starting area for each lane is a rectangular space outlined by tape located at the base of the tower. • The athlete will keep the high-rise pack within the boundaries of the markings. • In preparation for their race, the athlete may adjust the pack while on the ground but is not allowed to bend the pack in a bowing motion to prevent an unfair advantage. After adjusting the pack, the pack must be lying flat on the surface. Upon the verbal order of the Starting Official, athletes will move forward and stand in their respective starting space. • Athletes at this point may place their hands on or underneath the high-rise pack but at no time can the pack move. Movement of any kind will result in a 5-second penalty . • The start sequence count down will finish when the whistle blows. If the athlete leaves the marked boundary of their starting area before the whistle blows it will result in a 5-second penalty . This is called a False Start.
Evolution 1: High-Rise Hose Pack Carry
It’s the starting point of the course, where champions are born! Athletes, waiting at the base of the tower, hear the whistle and begin their climb (run) up our 41 feet high, five (5) story WHP® Training Tow- er of stairs (63 steps) carrying a 42lb hose pack from Snap-Tite® Hose. Evolution Overview, Rules and Infractions: • The handrails may be used in climbing the tower, and stair steps may be taken in multiples on the way up. • The rubber jacketed hose load and cover (42 lb.; 19kg) may be carried in any manner and must be fully deposited into the container at the top of the tower, with no part of the pack touching the deck outside of the box or a 2-second penalty will be assessed. • One foot must be on the top deck before releasing the high-rise pack or a 2-second penalty will be assessed. • If an athlete misses the box, they may correct the position, but only before starting the next evolution. • The high-rise pack may not be used as a step. A 10-second pen- alty will be imposed for this infraction. • The hose load must stay on the top platform. The athlete is Disqualified if the high-rise pack, hose roll or ANY other object falls off the tower. • After a clean drop of the hose pack has been made into the box during an individual category run, and the course official has made no infraction call, the evolution will be considered com- plete. Note: During a tandem or relay run the evolution is considered com- plete after the baton has been passed. 27
