TURNOUT GEAR (PPE) POLICY Firefighter Turnout Gear (PPE) is the official uniform of our sport worn by all athletes. As with all other sporting leagues, we have strict uniform standards in place to ensure consistency, safety, and integrity is maintained across the league. • Firefighters competing in our sport must wear PPE that is compliant for structural firefighting as defined by the Authority who have Jurisdiction in their Country, State or Province. • Athletes can wear the approved PPE from any country during competition if it complies with this Gear Policy. This means that an athlete can buy/wear approved gear from other countries, if they wish. • All Gear must contain the approved certification, standards, tags, and be in good working condition to be accepted for use unless specified below. Gear missing tags or that has been modified in any way will disqualify the gear from being used.

Turnout Gear: General Policies When an athlete completes their run, an inspection of their turnout gear will take place. If any of the following policies are found to be in violation of, a 15-second penalty will be added to their final run time:
General Policies:
• All gear must be serviceable (i.e., without holes), and have been approved for structural firefighting consistent with the above outlined standards. • Turnout gear that has been deemed ‘expired’ by a department (exceeding the 10-year life span rule) is eligible for use, however tags in the gear must be attached to prove they met the requirements at time of manufacturing. Coat Policy: • Coats must be appropriately sized and cover the area of intended protection as would be expected to fight a structural fire. This means that coats should be fully zipped up to the collar bone. • Collars must be showing (not tucked in). • Patches, decals, and a pocket for a baton are allowed on coats. Boots Policy: • Boots must be ‘fire service’ designated and comply with the approved standards outlined above. • Boots can be no less than 8” in height from ground to top of boot and must include a distinct heel breast (not less than a 1/2 inch heel). 34
