standing charge based on this proximity may be unethical to those
individuals.
5.2.2
Additionally with remote reliance on oil and
traditional fuel their connections to the grid may be a hinderance to
a substantial percentage of the community as they pay a standing
charge for a largely unutilised service (NFU Cymru, 2022).
5.2.3
Finally, within the rural remote communities
researched they found their houses to be insufficient of outdated in
their insulation, requiring more to heat and retain that warmth
(NFU Cymru, 2022). There for if connected they are likely to be
paying and using the companies’ energy more than urban
communities, so an additional high standing charge is unnecessary.
5.2.4
From the research it is clear that rural and remote
settlements require an evaluation on income in addition to distance.
Companies who link this communities to the grid are doing so to
gain their custom and money, therefore, customers should not be
required to permanently pay a higher standing charge.
