Great Plains Health Community Impact 2024-2025

Caring for our community

‘Tri’ it out: uplifting the mind, body and spirit in triathlons Since the start of the Platte River Fitness Series 23 years ago, Great Plains Health has been a partner in its success. The 2024 series includes 19 events throughout the year that encourage movement and activity, including the annual Tri-Nebraska Triathlon (pictured), held on April 26 and 27. The series tallies about 2,000 individual entrants each year from all 50 states and 93 Nebraska counties. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), physical activity can help people feel better, function better, and sleep better, and can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Ride right: promoting car seat safety For the past 15 years, Great Plains Health and Lincoln County Kids Safe (LinCKS) have worked together to ensure that children are safe on the road. In the last two years, more than 50 families have received free car seat checks at GPHealth-hosted events. Car seats and booster seats provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It’s important to choose the right seat and use it correctly every time your child is in the car. Parents can call LinCKS at any time to schedule a car seat check: 308.650.5555.

Smash hits and laughter: the pickleball playground In 2023, the Great Plains Gives Committee granted a $20,000 gift to North Platte Pickleball and Tennis for court improvements at Cody Park. Pickleball grew in 2023 to 13.6 million players in the United States, according to the 2024 Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) Topline Participation Report. Great Plains Health employees enjoy the sport just as much as the community! Learn more about Great Plains Gives at gphealth.org/about-us/community-impact.

“We once had a family who happened to drive by and saw our sign for a free car seat check. They were new to our country and unfamiliar with the laws regarding transportation. We were able to provide and fit their children in appropriate car seats and education on safety laws. They were so grateful.” Serena Findley BSN, RN, RNC-OB, CPST, IBCLC Great Plains Health Prepared Child Birth Educator and Lactation Consultant
