W Ahat an incredible night we shared at the Washington Hilton on March 28th with nearly 1000 close friends, all eating and drinking well into the evening! It was a terrific opportunity to honor the work of over 400 tradesmen for their dedication to their craft and to making beautiful places across the DMV for us all to enjoy. I would encourage everyone involved in the built environment to consider attending this unique annual event in future years. As I said that evening, these awards are not about the biggest deals or the biggest buildings, but about the littlest details and the strive for perfection that makes all the difference. Congratulations to all our 2025 Craftsmanship Award Winners – and particularly to our two new Craftsmanship Hall of Fame Members: 10-time award winner Dwight Daniels of Singleton Electric and 8-time award winner Anthony Maldonado of Washington Woodworking! If you were not able to join us for the ceremony, I would encourage you to take a moment and view their Hall of Fame Inductee video, which can be found here: https://www.wbcnet.org/craftsman_hall/2025- hall-of-fame/ It is an excellent reminder of why pride in one’s work matters and how rewarding it is to work together in this industry and in this city, creating iconic buildings and spaces that will be enjoyed well past our own individual careers. Speaking of careers – it was fitting that the Craftsmanship Banquet was our opportunity to send off our own Rita Reis, who had spent the past 29 years guiding the Washington Building Congress! When Rita announced her retirement, we knew we were losing an icon – someone whose institutional knowledge could not be replaced and whose warmth and caring for our association made her beloved by all who have been involved at WBC for the past three decades. Rita has organized nearly every event we’ve held since she joined WBC in 1996 – every golf outing, every happy hour, every holiday party, and certainly every Craftsmanship Program. The complexities of throwing an event for 1000 guests and coordinating all of the January judging, scoring, and awards cannot be overstated. We will miss her dedication and her friendship, and we wish her all the best in retirement. As we look ahead, there are still many exciting events coming up on the WBC calendar. Our annual Golf Outing will be held at Lansdowne Resort and Belmont Country Club on June 9th. This event is always a sell-out and always a great opportunity for networking and camaraderie. Thank you to all who have already signed up as sponsors. The Hammerheads will be hosting a Spring River Cruise on May 2nd. And our charitable arm, the WBC Foundation, which supports growth of the trades, will be hosting a Cigar & Bourbon Tasting event on May 8th (thank you Muller for sponsoring this event again). Finally, we are actively working on the details and dates for our Rebuilding Together home renovation, which will be announced soon. Please consider joining us on a Saturday later this spring/summer to pitch in and help a neighbor. It is a rewarding experience. If you are interested in becoming more involved and getting more out of your membership, please join any one of our active committees. There is something for everyone, no matter what your interests or skills. Joining a committee remains the best way to make a meaningful connection and means expanding your network. The lift is light, so reach out through our website and we’ll send you an invite to the next meeting. Come help guide WBC’s future. Thank you all for joining our events throughout the year and for your continued support.
